Wondering if people who come down with the weakened, non-lethal version will develop immunity to the killer one? If so, it might be advisable to go clubbing, but probably not in Mexico City...
I guess we just don't know enough yet, with the Information Age, we get the news faster than we can make any sense of it.
I read once that allergies may be caused by obsessive parents who kept their kids in "clean rooms," for instance, but I should have no problem there... ;) |

Barry is the author of "The Great Influenza," perhaps the signature history of the devastating 1918 pandemic. He says the historical record shows that isolating patients worked to slow the spread of flu in 1918, but that attempted quarantines -- preventing movement in and out of cities -- was "worthless."
While Barry supports the CDC's general containment strategy, in the past he has publicly criticized Markel's work. After Markel's findings were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Barry wrote a letter in response, saying it wasn't swift action but rather an earlier wave of mild flu, acting like a vaccination, that was probably responsible for New York's relatively low caseload.

it doesn't need to create anything. a virus copies genetic material from its host species as it evolves. knowledge > tin foil
people need to stop panicking off this and use common sense. it's just a new flu variant. i'm sick of hearing about it as if the sky is falling. |

You know whats funny. RIGHT before this really hit the fan, I watched the movie "Outbreak," LOL. Talk about conspiracy.
Here we go: Zeitgeist 3- how the government is creating viruses for bioterrorism and couldn't contain the last one...
Okay fact is....about 200 cases died of the swin flu in MEXICO.
the population in mexico is: 109,955,400. So Thats .000001%. Even though it spreads at an exponential rate, how many people die vs how many people recover. Its not like the anti-bodies are rare. You are probably still more likely to win the lottery just by putting in one dollar.
Look at BSE. There have been a total of 3 cases in the U.S. in its entire history. But I remember something like a big news fiasco for a few weeks. Hell, 40000 people die every year in fatal car crashes, but when 4 people die in a plane crash.. its national news. Funny how that works..
This is why I dont watch the news. You get more emotional effect from it than actual informative news. And of course they never include HALF of the vital facts. Today's news profits off of fear because we live in a society driven by emotions. Just something to think about. |

Like any other flu, the big concern is when older people and children/toddlers/infants get it. They are by far most at risk as their immune system is weaker.
Healthy adults can fight it off. Heard most cases in the US aren't even requiring doctor's care. I wonder if peeps with in the US are doing OK for the most part because of better nutrition in general (as Mexico is a poorer country)
The symptoms for healthy adults are pretty much the same as the regular flu, but you just throw up a lot more....believe that's what I've heard a few times on TV and have read. :-p |

These flus are made to target 18-35 year old healthy bodies, the more physically fit and muscular the more apt to dying from these flus. Old people are actually more able to fight off these types of flus. |

I would like to get the flu right now too (just like some of my friends have over the last few weks).
I'd feel much better going into Fall if I did. |

It won't help against the Swine Flu since the vaccination is for a specific strain, and I don't think they have the vaccination, yet.
Just take care of yourself and you'll be fine. |
