What's this about pitching being a chronic problem? The Jay's pitching and defense have been their only bright spot for a few years now... BATTING has been the problem...
While the pitchers have for sure had their off-nights. They have been consistently good over the last few years. But I can't begin to count the number of 3-1, 4-2, etc. games that the Jays have lost over the last few years, and it's been a LOT. Hell, before Gibbons got fired, they were boasting a .258 average (and were 5 games under .500), (Batting average was .259 in 2007 for reference... Hey, I guess that IS, technically, consistent). But, over the 88 games Cito Gaston coached, they were batting .275, and had a .580 win percentage... The hitting improved, the team started winning. They started winning because the pitching and defense have been SOLID, and not just on the occasional night. It's been that way for a few years. They Jay's win when they have their bats going, and lose when they don't, and the games they lose are often low-scoring, close games.
Ever since Cito Gaston started coaching, the Jay's bats have been hot. So I'm hopeful that's indicative of some consistency coming forth. If the batting stays consistent, then I think we're looking at playoffs for sure. |

that was a beating in chicago, why has mlb.com not put this team at the top of its news headlines. The jays have the best record in baseball
baseball fans or not, show Toronto the respect it deserves. |
as long as Selig will rule the MLB, Canada won't get any respect... forget about it.
just thinking about how we got robbed our playoffs in 94 still just makes me sicks, and to top it off we then got robbed our team. |

| If they win 90 games they will be lucky.....and thats the number they need to be looking at if they even want to stand a chance of making the post season. Halliday is good for 22-25 wins....so you are looking at 4 other starters to get 65 wins....and I don't think any of them have won 15 games in a season before. You basically have to hope for career years from 4 starters plus consistant hitting, which they have shown in the past they can't do. |
