I think you're referring to Colombian defender Andres Escobar. He scored an own goal in a match against USA which Colombia ended up losing 2-1 and failed to qualify for the second round.
He was actually shot and killed outside a bar in Medellin. :nervous: |

Or it could be goalkeeper Rene Higuita when he ed up trying to dribble the ball through a forward from Cameroun . |
