It's just a mutation of the flu... which has the same effect as all the other flus from what I gather.
Same thing, different name... something else to blow out of proportion and scare everyone over.
the fact that this is killing healthy people is the problem. Normal flu kills the immunosuppressed and the elderly/children.

If someone can explain to me why it is so much worse than regular flu... I would be appreciative because I am having a hard time understanding the reason for all the alarm.
This flu is different because it's an entirely new strain. There are no current vaccines (unlike existing flus) and it's a far deadlier version. As narcism said, this has the potential to kill healthy adults. "Normal" flu strains do not.

There are new strains pretty much every single year... that isn't something that different than any other flu strain.

Over the course of a flu season, different types (A & B) and subtypes of influenza A viruses can circulate and cause illness. In addition, influenza viruses are constantly changing through a process called "antigenic drift."
And from what I understand based on the information you get when they give you a flu shot, they don't have vaccines for every single strain anyway. They can only hope that whatever strain becomes prominent is weak against the vaccine they are using.
Deadlier? 63,000 + people (in the U.S. alone) die annually from the flu. A measly 100 people have died from this strain. On average, there should be 173 people dying every single day in order to keep up with regular flu deaths. Still not sure how it is deadlier... it hasn't surpassed regular flu death rates.

Do you have the statistical info on the people who have died from this?
I personally can't find information on the people who actually died from this flu other than one baby, and there isn't even any information about the health condition of the baby to begin with. Are you just assuming they are healthy people? Source please?
In order to be convinced, I need cold hard evidence. Otherwise, I am not on board with the hype.

i have not seen a list of names, ages, medical conditions of those who have died. I highly doubt anyone will, its called medical confidentiality. You might want to keep checking back on the world health organizations website.
