WHAT?! THEY OVER-EXAGGERATED THE NUMBERS?!?!

My favourite line, and actually discounts one of my previous points:

quote:
of 159 files on suspected flu deaths, tests showed 58 died of other causes. He said 16 deaths are confirmed as caused by the H1N1 flu and 85 are being tested.

HOLY 16 DEATHS1?!?

WE'RE DOOMED!!

Kthxbye.

1. Bird flu patients die from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) caused by the cytokine storm, and not directly from the virus. Historic survival in ARDS is 60%-85%; with bird flu-associated ARDS it is 43%.

www.cytokinestorm.com

And I should have qualified that it is a theory, but one which is currently being evaluated with positive (meaning true) results, so far. But the bottom line is that you chose not to Google cytokine storm, as I recommended, and instead chose to make a very long and very unnecessary post. If you had Googled cytokine storm, you would have found the answer to your question instead of asking me to back up my assertion, which I had already supported by referring you to Google.

LMAO!!

Referring people to google is now considered support of a claim?!

I am totally using that now!

:haha:

P.S. I did google it and found nothing directly related to the H1N1 flu and/or the ages of those who have been affected by it and if they have died as a result.

This person is saying they don't know because the data has not been released:

http://scienceblogs.com/aetiology/2...s_in_health.php

If you read this, she also says there are a lot of other things that may make the "Cytokine Storm" seem present when it isn't.

P.P.S. I may just use your quote in my sig for hilarity purposes.

I just got back from Mexico City & saw a totally different story. Everyone was sick & no one is getting better. Antibiotics are being issued & they are not working. Hospitals were jam packed & very very understaffed. The medical staff that were treating dying patients were passing out & then dying as well from Influenza. Sick children roaming the streets cause their parents dead bodys are stinking up their homes. No electricity, food or water. I give it a week before people start feeding on dead bodies. It was something I will never forget. :(

However, deaths from the current H1N1 outbreak in Mexico suggest that the virus attacks younger adults, possibly because of exaggerated immune response.

It was this "cytokine storm" that was thought to explain the same pattern of deaths during the 1918 flu pandemic that killed tens of millions of people.

It's the COR! You seem to be taking this discussion a little too seriously, but if it makes you feel better about yourself and your ability to prove your intellect over a complete non-issue, go ahead.

Do you also work in a day-care center where you frequently win Trivial Puruit Genius Edition games with kindergartners? It seems like you're going to a substantial effort in order to prove people wrong. My original remark was casual, as was its reference to Google, and made without any expectation that I'd have to back up anything.

In return you've assumed a pedantic arrogance which I suspect is just you looking to legitimize your release of hostility. I really don't understand why else you would be making such an issue out of this.

Dude, when it comes to debates in the c0r, the term "Chill Out" gets thrown out the window. Welcome.

The article you linked doesn't really prove your theory. There is nothing to verify the ages and health of those that have apparently died from H1N1.

Oh and I want it on the record that I pwn at Trivial Pursuit at the local day-care. Seriously... I am currently in 2nd, but to be fair, first is Billy the 4 year old Bully who has intimidated me into letting him win... seriously.

What about P.L.U.R.? Did you also miss the pegacorn in my avatar? I'm a gentle, peace loving person who'd never hurt anyone. Love is infinitely more powerful than anger.

Hence, for the third time,

A theory which qualified professionals in their field are advancing and therefore not one which should be dismissed as invalid. Continuing to point out that it is a theory is redundant.

DOOMBOT
Mexico city has a population of about 8,836,045 people. Let's just say 200 people have been confirmed dead from the flu, which is much more then are actually confirmed, are we really supposed to be that worried about it? Last time I checked, 1000 people a day are being sent to the hospital in the USA due to dog bites. There are also roughly 40,000 deaths a year on our government owned roads. Interesting that we don't see people running around like chickens with their heads cut off with these types of statistics but all of a sudden we are worried about people who are dying from a flu virus. Might I add, the flu has been killing people for quite some time. Why all of a sudden is this specific type of flu a big deal?
