Chances are, there's a middle ground where you find music both of you like. And you never know if someone could end up liking something further down the road. And sometimes, the fact that two people DON'T like ALL of the same things - makes things interesting and fun, and gives each person the chance to learn about what the other likes.

The OP asked if we would date someone who ''ABSOLUTELY hates dance music with a passion''. Uhh non merci. I honestly don't think I could date someone who hates my music that much. Seeing as it's such a huge part of my life, it's pretty much all I listen to, and all the music events I attend are EDM events, and I don't see my music tastes changing any time in the next decade or 2.. I frankly don't think it'd be a good idea to date someone who loathes something I love so much.
I dated someone like that in the past, We were constantly arguing about it, drove each other nuts.. so no, I don't think I could do it.
Now if it was someone who was pretty indifferent to EDM, or didn't mind it and could groove to one or 2 of my tunes once in a while.. yes, why not.. we could work something out. And I agree that we don't have to have everything in common, I wouldn't want to date an exact replica of myself anyway. But having similar musical tastes is very important to me. |

Even if the person absolutely hated dance music with a passion - I cannot say that I would rule out dating them. Completely disregarding someone because of their taste in music (to me) seems petty and ridiculous. I know that (for myself and my friends) none of us have exactly the same tast in music as we had ten years ago. Even five years ago. So would I write off someone because of a genre of music I like RIGHT NOW? No.
There's a lot more to life than just music (yes, I said it), and I (me) am not going to base an entire relationship off of taste of music. I have work, friends, hobbies, and a whole life outside of music - if the person hated my job, friends, hobbies, AND music - well then yes, I would have to say we couldn't withstand a relationship. |
