It is very interesting I agree. Genetically, they are very close to Arabs/Persians afaik so I don't see why they seem to think they are a separate race.

Well I can think of a few other people who thought they were a completely separate race...

It is definately a unique phenomenon and I have always wondered about if the genetic makeup of Jews really points towards their so called pure heritage.

this is why the term "arab jews" for example can be seen as controversial. Then it is argued that they were just jews living in Arab lands. Fair enough, what about Berber jews, Kurdish jews, etc?

edit: these groups assimilated into their local cultures gracefully, and it was only when the immigrations started that these groups reunited with their "real" culture abandoning language/customs/etc.

I just meant way back. Both mum and dad's families are Australian for about 4 or 5 generations. Before that, it was mostly Scottish, French and German.

Yea I actually also have my grandfather's side going back to the 1850's in Australia. The rest of the family I guess would be originally from somewhere in eastern Europe (Poland, Austria, Hungary, I believe).

You're pretty much right on this one. There's no real way to prove it with most Jewish people I suppose although I do know for a fact that DNA testes were done that linked Jews from different parts of the world to the same source in the Middle East (or at least something along those lines). Personally though I was born in Israel and my extended family is very Jewish for the most part, so I don't have any doubts about myself.

even then its difficult to prove as jewish people have been dispursed all over the world. I guess the only way to really know is a DNA test.
