you can get a curved automation line in ableton without a midi keyboard, just draw more nodes and adjust them...

Well obviously, people are complaining. [Thus this thread] So either the user or the program [i'm betting the program] are messed up, either way, trying another DAW will always help.

People will complain about pretty much any DAW. I know I've seen complaints about FL before. I agree that trying something else can't hurt, though.

Either one of those is fine, the first is really awesome i had to chance to use it within a live set a friend of mine was doing using ableton.

I automate everything it's the only way.

If your having difficulty in ableton my suggestion is do it live then you can see what you've automated, then you can go in and fix it they way you want.

Random Ableton tip of the day - Hold "Alt" down when drawing your automation. Not exactly curved automation, but it's as close as you can get with Ableton at the moment.

Watch a couple of videos on Automation in Ableton....it's really quite simple mate...especially if you have version 8 but it's still easy as hell with 7. All you have to do is learn to turn the devices on and manipulate the value line properly. For automating your VSTs, use the drop down (drop open really) where the VST has it's parameters listed. Select the parameter you want to automate. Let's say Resonance. Then just go to the track and bam, resonance is an option and you automate it to your hearts desire.

They've taken automation so far in Ableton 8 that you can actually export a DJ set without ever having to mix it. It has an Xfader automation that automates not just volume, but just about any parameter you think of between separate tracks. Pretty soon we are not going to need DJs at parties.

Here is an image of the Live 8 Automation between two tracks..
..As a decade old DJ it sickens me to see what technology has done to it. Being a DJ used to mean something. I miss my $300 monthly PlanetXUSA bills in a sick & deranged way. I miss hunting down hard to find vinyl and paying out the ass for it so I could have the best tracks for my shows....I miss having to buy new needles and physical equipment....

Now every joe blow and their mother just downloads traktor or whatever garbage, pirates 99% of their music, and calls themselves a DJ. Get F'in real.

Oh the Nostalgia

*Off Soapbox

Really though, try hunting down some Ableton videos and be more specific about your automation problems.

Settle down grandpa :p

Nah, i know exactly how you feel i started to learn to DJ just when vinyl was being phased out so it was a really weird for me buying my TTs and vinyl and then being told that it's dead within a few months.

I have kids in my school who are just like that, who call themselves ridiculous like dj wooter and dj infared, that basically steal two songs off limewire use virtual dj to mix them and tell people they are their own tracks.

DJing.... "Yay, I can play other peoples without the need for any skill of my own" Lol.

DJing is to the music world, what photography is to the art world.

Photography isn't art.

Welcome to the world of bitorrent and slsk, and the fact that any joe can host a preset track stream through the net into some sound system of some club. DJs went the way of the Dodo Birds.
