Thanks to Sand Leaper (NuJazz) and Ziptnf (Old School Trance) for 2 very enjoyable sets.

I and my friends, roommates get more pleasure from these sets than you guys could ever imagine.

Kind of interesting to me, first I listened to Tony and Nik's sets which represent familiar and favored genres to me; I enjoyed them both so much but I always enjoy good downtempo and techno or trancy techy compilations.

Then I listen to Jan Henrik's set, the genre which felt less familiar yet very attractive, interesting I think, this is music which intrigues me and now, with Ziptnf's set, I'm back to what is most dear to me, which I guess may not be "old school" to some of you and I have to insert here, age is not such a determining factor because I'm as old (mentally and emotionally) as Sand Leaper but the tracks Ziptnf selected definitely is "old school" to me, the classics that you loved back then and you hear them now and you think wow, I will always love these tracks...

lol, sorry, I lost my train of thought. Just want to say thanks, good stuff. I read criticism of Ziptnf's but I dunno, his set wins me. It's just good, plain and simply good.

Hey, thanks for the review, that was my goal, was to play familiar tracks for everyone that are easy to love. Even though I had a couple ty transitions, I feel like the tracks are too good to trash the set because of some poor beatgridding. I really appreciate this, your feedback makes me so happy :)

Aaaaaaaaaand we're done!!!

When fewer people than in the previous rounds registered I was hoping we could finally have a round where all mixes are done. Sadly I was completely wrong and not even half of the mixes were done. I don't really know what went wrong or what could be done about it.

Not to criticize anyone in particular, but the "deal" with this game is that you commit to do a random genre mix and what you get in return is that someone mixes the one you registered. When so many participants just drop out the whole idea goes astray.

I don't think there'll be a fourth round in the next few month (unless someone else does it, of course). Maybe with a longer pause interest and dedication will be renewed.

Why don't you just extend the deadline a few days? Do you think that will help?

If this thing dies, I just have to say I think it was a great idea and I enjoyed all the sets that were posted. It just seemed so fun to me. Like to make a set in the genre that was assigned.

Cheers.

Hopefully. Maybe three rounds in pretty quick succession was a bit too much. I still think the concept is a pretty good idea and I thoroughly enjoyed joining in one of the rounds.

Maybe you can try again when autumn / winter is getting nearer (for most of us), people might have a somewhat longer attention span and put in a little more effort by that time. Plus the fact that the concept might have lost a bit of staleness by then.

Yeah, why not extending the deadline by about 2 weeks? I'd gladly submit something if I had more time...

yeah i agree. this idea is ace and it would be a shame for there not to be another.

after i was in the first competition i was annoyed with people that didnt bother doing their mix. and yet this time i have failed to produce, but it really was a genuine reason... my decks are balls'd

See, I told you guys I would finish it! There were several pain-in-the-ass tracks, ones that weren't beatgrid friendly whatsoever. In particular, those tracks were Tenshi and 1998, where the beatgrid kept getting out of sync, so I found myself having to adjust the beatgrid manually during transitions. I wish I had 3 arms :o

Anyways, sorry for playing songs that have been beat to death for 10 years, but these are all my favorites. I mixed them harmonically. Enjoy!

Beam vs Cyrus & The Joker - Launch in Progress
Gouryella - Tenshi (Transa Remix)
Ferry Corsten - Sublime (Thrillseekers Remix)
Tiesto - Sparkles
Rank 1 - Airwave
Sasha - Xpander
Ian van Dahl - Castles in the Sky (Wippenberg Remix)
ATB - Summer
Veracocha - Carte Blanche
Binary Finary - 1998 (Paul Van Dyk Remix)
Pulser - Cloudwalking
Kaycee - Escape
Darude - Out of Control

of all the mixes I was mostly looking forward to the oldskool trance mix. mainly because there aren't that many oldskool trance mixes made. having listened to this I dunno really what to say. There's definetly no oldskool trance in this mix. More like "top trance hits of 99" or something. Not saying that the tracks are bad or so. 1998 pvd remix, xpander and escape are all great tracks.

but yeah. as already mentioned. the mix felt like an anti-climax. since i expected some awesome oldskool trance but instead got tracks that were already played to death even at the time they were released.

I agree with the old guy though. new trance sucks. :toothless

Sorry, dude, I just wasn't into trance before 1997. I was never told HOW old school the trance was supposed to be, but I think tracks that are 10 years old fit the ticket. I didn't have enough time to dig really deep into tracks that I had never listened to yet were produced before 95. I'm happy with what I put together, sorry to disappoint, this seemed to have been a challenge that would ruffle a lot of people's feathers :(

This place always dies out a bit during the summer IMO. Maybe a longer pause before the next one would be a good thing.

Regarding an extended deadline:

Eventhough the point of a deadline should be to mark a clear end I have no problem extending it when it means that actually more mixes are made and not just waiting longer. But experience from round 1 where the time limit was very loose tells me that those who don't finish in time usually never finish.

So yeah, if you put together something in the next two weeks, DO IT!

New time limit: 08.08
