I think the problem is that people aren't suggesting styles they want to hear, but rather styles that force other people out of their comfort zones for the sheer sake of it.
I'm still very much on the fence for this one, because I don't want to put the sweat and tears into making a schranz or HHC mix that nobody is going to enjoy, just because people wanted to push things. |

I will download any schranz or happy hardcore mixes (although with happy hardcore, there's a good chance that a lot of the tracks are going to be crap, but there's certainly some good tracks out there). |

I thought stepping out of your comfort zone was the whole point of this challenge to begin with. I find it depressing if people really think it is "torture" to dig for new music when it involves more than a couple of clicks on Beatport.
edit: For the record, this wasn't why I suggested skweee. It was simply because I thought that a mix of it would be interesting to hear, as it is a quite fresh and different kind of music that has been established as a genre of its own (unlike "deep techno" and similar muddy subgenres). |

I think that the ultimate objective of any time spent behind the decks is to produce something people will enjoy. I really enjoyed your progressive house mix, which wouldn't have been made if not for this challenge. Stretching yourself for the sake of it isn't fun.
I wasn't referring to your skweee mix, although asking a player to do a lot of research AND hunt their own tracks is a lot for a fun game. I just seriously doubt the people suggesting schranz, casiocore or ghettotech in these threads are even in any position to judge the final product. |

bull, when i first asked for casiocore in the first competition i thought id throw a curveball, but it wasnt allowed.. so no problem, it is way too obscure, but schranz? lots of people like schranz, its not unheard of, there ARE big DJ's in schranz, i think this is just more a case of if you got picked to do schranz, you would hate it because you think people wouldnt download it. well i felt this way also in the first competition when i was assigned THE worst possible genre anyone could have picked for me [italo], i still did my mix.
and im sure more people listen to schranz over italo.
i agree on no too 'exotic' suggestions, like skwee and the casiocore i suggested before. but schranz is a very recognised style, and if your not willing for it to be included in this competition, well thats just dumb |

I never had a moments doubt about accepting Schranz. But I think the presence of too many obscure genres scares some people off. And indeed this round misses some "usual suspects" from Trance, House, Psy, etc, which of course can't be blamed on individual entries but seems to be a general trend.
I was just thinking that I could compile a list of genres (based on suggestions) for a future round and only then open the registration. I never wanted to centralize that muc influence on myself but it might be a solution if the weirdness gets out of hand.
I always thought that something as simple as Vocal Trance or Deep House would already be quite hard for a lot of people who don't listen to it. |
