You can flame me all you want for stating this, but I think some of you have really sucked the fun out of this whole thing. It's at the point where I feel like putting a lot of these mixes together is more of a hassle than anything. Seriously. These picks are way too ing specific. That's why I decided to pass this time. I was lucky to not get stuck with anything really bad the last two times, but I'm not gonna risk it this time around. Yea I could enter and get stuck with something ty that I'll never have any hopes of coming up with a mix for and in the end just not submit an entry, as people have done in the past, but I don't swing that way.

A shame.

+1 on that. It has become a "try to come up with a more obscure genre than me" contest.

not really, its all in the name of trying to keep it interesting.. although i admit this skweee thing sounds a bit retarded. i had my very first suggestion turned down in the first competition [casiocore]

and my suggestion for this time was schranz.. im sure everyone will know what that is as it is not an unknown genre at all. that nu jazz, im a bit scared of, i have no idea what that is, and sounds like something i will never ever want to witness

To help you get over the scare:

It really is like funky house with breakbeats. And of course, jazzy.

It already is interesting to begin with by getting to listen to people's take on a genre that they are not familiar/knowledgeable. You can still have a very interesting challenge by using genres like Techno, Trance, Deep House, Big Beat, Indie Dance/Nu Disco, Tech House, Minimal, Progressive House, and Dubstep. There's no need to get idiotic with genres like Casiocore, Skweee, or even Happy Hardcore. It's supposed to be fun for the person making the mix too since it's a learning experience, not torture.

I only participated in the first one, and I did learn something. I had "Electro-Tech Trance", and I learned to appreciate the way the guys that play it, mix it. It certainly is different to mix than the Deep/Tech House that I play. Much more stuff going on that can up your mix. However, I found that it's much easier to program. What the hell would I have been able to learn from Casiocore? Not only is it horrendous, it's completely irrelevant.

Makes me laugh really. I got knocked last time for suggesting deep tech, but stuff like casiocore and even skweee and such are just a novelty and really getting carried away imo.
You may not like it but I think happy hardcore is a good genre choice, however I'm a bit busy at the mo to get involved this time around.

So I've given this some thought and came to the conclusion that I really don't want the genres to become more and more obscure. It certainly makes things interesting, but it also makes life really hard for the DJ who gets it and potentially scares some participants off.
I think it's important to have a good mix of many common genres and a few weird ones.

Based on that I will not accept Skweee since it's too exotic. Please select something else Sand Leaper.

Regarding Techno, I would not say it's too general. That would only be a problem if we already had various subgenres of it in here.

The whole point of this challenge is to discover new music/music that you wouldn't normally give a chance, so if you have this kind of attitude, you might as well pack it in.

That said, seeing as how the majority has ruled that skweee is too exotic, I'll accept that. I choose oldschool trance (91-95) instead.
