I think I've stated enough already that I'd almost rather be tied up and thrown in a pile of compost than go to Opera these days, as well as stated many times over that mid-week shows are ing retarded.

But here's what makes me curious... NY, LA, and MIA can book a DJ before Midnight, so why can't we? I mean, do we HAVE to wait until 12 to see someone spin on a Wednesday night? I know that takes a way from ATL tradition a bit, but I'd be much more likely to show up to one of these if I knew I would be home before 4AM. The two Pendulum shows I've been to that ended before 12 were great... do these DJ's have something in theor contract that forbids them coming on at 10?

Ive never heard of pendulum getting finished spinning at 12. When they play as a band, yes they will be done sooner. All most all live bands shows regardless of the genre end early as it's fitting for the type of show. Clubs don't even open till 10, so obviously you couldn't have a major dj headlining at 10 when people arent even in the club fully yet...his set would be starting to a empty club which would be a odd vibe. Warm up dj's leading to a later booked headliner in clubs is laid out perfectly. And yes bigger cities sometimes get them on before 12 but their set is not done earlier...its actually reversed. Many dj's in bigger cities play all night long as the clubs stay opener later.

I'm with Maggie. There is no reason a dj couldn't start earlier. The club could change it's hours on certain nights you know. I mean, it is ridiculous for people to have to go to a show till 3 am on a weeknight.

I know some of you guys love the shows at the Mark. Seems like Seppuku is the main one bringing it up in this thread. Just because you love the artist and think it's a solid booking doesn't mean everyone would agree. I mean, if I've never even heard of the person, they probably won't be selling out the trade center. I'm not closed minded, I'd dare to even say I listen to more different kinds of music than anyone here. My point is, there doesn't need to be a war of words among who people who think the underground stuff is better. Just love what you love and if people don't like 2556 or whatever they were called and like Tiesto instead, that's ok too.

ummm zach.... that's 2562 buddy. :)

i kind of like wednesday shows. maybe that's because i typically work friday thru tuesday. as far as opera is concerned, if you hate it that much just don't go. ultimately, the show will go on with or without you. i know i'm not really saying anything new here.

also, i don't know you yet seppuku, but i remember you mentioning a while back that you got tossed out of opera. was that a joke? but on that score, i haven't noticed opera staff being all that bad. sure, the staff is prob a little douchey, but that's typical club staff for you.

Take this how you will, but I've always imagined you resembling Sean Hannity.

If the club is inconveniencing the working folks by booking until 3AM on Wednesday, they could compromise by opening an hour early IMHO. Yeah, the show will go on whether myself or a number of other folks who can't really afford to crawl in hungover... but profit-wise you think they might realize "Hey, maybe we could make a little more money AND make a few more people happy if we opened at 8 and put the DJ on at 10." ... or am I putting too much faith into the club for assuming they might even care to make us happy? =P

What your saying very much could work...i dont know it's just not heard of for clubs anywhere to open at 8..which in some seasons would mean daylight. Im not sure if this concept would end up working out or not, but yeah it's not that bad of an idea for a wednesday show.
