Nah, it was in a magazine.

The containers are filled with ionised metal filings. The car is powered by the filings de-ionising, and when you're finished with a canister, you go to a service station and swap it over for another, just like current day BBQ gas bottles.

This sounds like a fantastic concept. Do you remember the magazine name? I am really intrigued by this.

Did it require a specific type of metal?

Exactly.

I understand that earlier on, it was all the rage to stylize these things as uniquely (i.e., as ugly) as possible in order to distinguish them from the standard internal combustion dependent machine, but there's no reason to keep dressing them up this way now that everyone has apparently gotten the point.

It seems that someone finally got the clue, as Nissan decided to start manufacturing hybrids that look like actual cars.

There is a reason that the Prius has the design it does. It has a very low drag coefficient. One that is right up there with Porsche 911's. That is part of the equation for high mileage.

Porsche 997 911 GT3 = .32 and 2001 Prius = .29.

Sorry, all I saw was:

Facts mean nothing to me.

Doesn't the engine switch to gas power once you go over 60km/h? Which would mean it's really only beneficial for city driving, right?

You are correct. Which in a lot of places, makes it pretty much useless as a hybrid. In most of California, we are going 120km/h on the freeways.

So basically it's stupid then, right?

New Scientist I think.

also the train thing applies too but its not just the engine.

It will go there because it allows more control and enforcement - highways are already being monitored. It is just one of the steps.

Hybrids won't pay but with rebates like 10k they can be very cost effective for the individual
see: http://www.wheredoesallmymoneygo.co...-electric-cars/

That wasn't the point of this thread. You are now on ignore for being too ing annoying with your schizo posts.

In their current form yes. This was part of my whole original post. With most locomotives (the diesel-electric hybrid types) (I am going to assume, but not with any certainty, this will include Canada too) they are diesel-electric, but the diesel motor is used only for power generation. It is not used as a means to move the train, unlike with our car hybrids. ;)

Actually, I think it may be more of the obnoxious culture that's built around hybrids that irks me more than the designs of the cars themselves.

Then again, I'm San Francisco, so I suspect I get a greater dose of it than many others.
