| Trance music started evolving in the late 80's under three main influences: the first was the electronic new wave/industrial music, the second was the electronic techno disco of Detroit; and the third was the psychedelic music of the seventies. The first step towards what we know nowadays as Trance or Goa Trance was done in 1988 with the introduction of the TB 303 sound into straight beat dance music, and the amazing effect it was found to perform over people dancing. This effect was further enhanced by the administration of a rediscovered drug called MDMA (or 3, 4 methylene-dioxy-methamphetamine) or as it was popularly labeled on the streets "Ecstasy" and so Acid music was born and brought upon the UK the summer of love." -- from extremis.psykotraz.com |

no mate, the dude that invented tecno said, " i want to try something new, something that would be completely different from house, and i'm gonna call it techno so all people will know it is DIFFERENT."
the same with trance... we have to separate them because they ARE different genres. |

Well, isn't that what I'm saying? I'm not saying they are the same genre and neither is the Electronika Primer

nope, with the introduction of TB303, acid house was born, not acid trance or goa.
the original trance had little in common with what they call trance nowadays. now it is a different thing, it is so different it even deserves its own subsection. Today's trance has its own, numerous sub-genres... but the main thing is it sounds so unsimilar to techno it cannot be put into the same section in it
Trance and techno are completely different! |

Yeah, I agree with you. Trance and techno are completely different. But I think the original trance (not today's trance as you said) do relate to techno. |

whatever...
they were definitely not the first ones who began to use it
...on the other thought, even if they did use it, what does it change?
they don't use it nowadays, do they? actually, i would like them more if they were still using it :p |

well, i'm not arguing with u about trance heritage cause i do understand techno particiapted in its evolution. what my point is, is that trance should be described separately as putting it in the same section with techno describes it in an unsuitable way
besides, after further analyze of that "relations" thing, they could've actually described techno as a subgenre of house.. but they didn't do it... which means they do single out techno outta house but they still consider trance as a melodic variant of techno which is awfully wrong... and that's why i believe ishkur's guide is closer to the reality. |

Ok maybe you've got a point there.
By the way, did you read the disclaimer of Ihskur's guide to electronic music? |
|
|
| attacc |
and if Ishkur's guide to electronic music is so serious why do it definte Rank-1 - Airwave as not trance. I've heard people say that track is the definition of trance which I personally do not agree with.
Klubbheads is on Ishkur's guide defined as Stupid House.
Read the disclaimer :p |
