I found this the other day. It's actually really cool, with samples of all the different genres and sub genres. Might take about 5 minutes to laod on 56K modems.

For a laugh check out some Speedcore or Terrorcore. Man that is ed up. :)

OK......it's not bad........but i find his personal opinions of things are not exact.....tho speedcore, HHC, Terrorcore SHOULD NEVER BE LISTENED TO!.
Orbital
Yeah.. well i don't agree with everything he said but for the most part i think he's got it sorted. What's wrong with listing the Speedcore/terrorcore stuff? I can't believe people even wrote that sort of music. Gong Gong Gong... bloody hell.

It's a cool website, but you know he's not 100% serious :)

There's another website called: the electronica primer. It is more serious.. it covers a lot of genres, house, jungle ambient.. and it's good reading.

Trance is one of the most popular styles at larger parties. The basic beat is 1 2 3 4, hence techno, and 140+ BPM.

Trance is one of the most popular styles at larger parties. The basic beat is 1 2 3 4, hence techno, and 140+ BPM. The hi hats between the four beats are louder than in other genres, which makes the music hotter. The bass can go higher and lower. The tracks are finished with dreamy and spacy sound scapes or the piano from Robert Miles, less furious. Very characteristic are the drum climaxes after which you put your hand in the air and jump up. It started in Germany in the beginning of the nineties - Age of Love - and grew to a world sound. Listen to Protect Your Mind form DJ Sakin & Friends.

IT DOES NOT DESCRIBE TRANCE AS SUBGENRE OF TECHNO:whip:
the SERIOUS page says that techno and trance has some similarities.

I try to contribute a little to this forum and THIS is what I GET?!!!?
Tha really pisses me off.. IF you know any better website and perhaps more *SERIOUS* why don't you post them?

Personally I think the electronica primer is ing great. It describes a lot of different genres and their roots which I find very interesting.

Enjoy your evening
Kind regards

And it IS described as a techno subgenre

OK sir, where would you put it? Jungle? House?

Trance do relate from detroit techno doesn't it? And even though it relates from techno it doesn't necessarily make it a subgenre of techno.

You don't call house a subgenre of Soul and Disco do you? Or even better.. rap is not a subgenre of soul, but both rap and house music do relate from disco.

techno is techno, trance is trance, and house is house

and trance has nothing to do with detroit techno at all

Don't give me those rolleyes.

You might say that techno is techno and house is house, but do you think that one day some fella just said to himself, hey, today I am going to make a completely new genre called Techno?

Maybe he did, but the genre was not completely new because it relates from earlier electronic stuff... for example Kraftwerk. Yes, you could say that Kraftwerk's music is the grandfather of techno.. but it doesn't make Kraftwerk's synth pop and techno the same thing.

Music evolves to genres ...
