He's right. However, it really depends on what kind of tracks he's referring to. If anything I would blame the labels because they're putting out such in the first place. Would kind of minimize things.

I have to admit a little. I figured if I did a solid number of remixes, the name would push out a bit. It's really more about quality in the productions. Slowly but surely, my tracks are starting to sound much better.

I have a long way to go, but I definitely try to put different genres into a blender to create that one unique sound. However overall, I play with different genres so I'm not so 1 dimensional. Keeps things fresh and also keeps people guessing at what comes next in a release for that particular artist.

Something tells me that I should save this quote :haha:

Funny you started this Kelly, I have been somewhat bored with what is out there, same "formula", (Build-Tension-Release formula) you know when the kick is going to start, buildups, basslines, beats,etc,etc...

I really listen to older sets from the Mid 90's to early 2000, also into some cool deep house, and more lounge vibes and chill vibes with some nice cocktails at my side..

Dont get me wrong, I still love trance, just that I need to weed through 50 tracks to reach one that "moves" me...I also like Producers that look at older tracks and do something with them. (Case in Point: Seans Rework of ROOS), thats what im looking for...

Its all a Circle my friends, look how far trance got (from early Techno to Acid Trance)....I wonder what else will be next, thats what keeps me coming back year after year until im 99, then Ill retire..

Thinking back to the older days, moments were different than they are now. Nostalgia is a delusion, I tend to not look back and dream of the (g)olden days of trance. Trance didn't grow up and evolve alongside us (me). This in turn, for me, pushes me to look for something that fits this particular moment. I just, at times, hope to hear a gem here and there in the genre I used to love.

Also, the present day (trance) sets by DJs seem devoid of emotion and lack a good flow to me - or it's more probably, just the same old rehashed peaks and drops that are so predictable that it's just a borefest. Regardless of the genre, I still enjoy listening to EDM for the memorable emotions it does bring out time to time.

just listen to disco and funky house and you'll be alright

trance has been on a downhill years ago...as far as trance goes, its where hip hop is-- DEAD!!

well im not going to run wild and say dead cause there are just only a FEW that are keeping it to the roots...Tom was one of them this past saturday at Love. that guy did an awesome job! as for askew, he got reallly boring really fast for me...like i said before, only a FEW (very few) are staying true to trance!

my 2 cents

Trance is changing. There is no doubt about that.

I cant comment on clubbing as thats been recent (1-2 years), but musicwise trance isnt the same like you would hear 9 years ago. 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 were all great years to me of what I defined as trance and what I thought would be trance when I became old enough to go to a club. Back then I was lucky to be able to tune in to Party 93.1 in Miami or download trance from Napster as it came out.

To people used to the trance from back then, or just a few years ago, yes I completely agree that trance in general is "going downhill". But this is just the new sound of trance. Its just something thats not going to stop. Trance will evolve like pop did, more on this below.

Some DJ's will still continue to play old-school trance or trance that some people are used to. Thats great, and if it wasnt for them, I probably wouldnt be here or going out to events. Some will still produce a great tune from time to time. Other DJ's will venture off to experiment with new sounds. Old Trance, New Trance, its all trance, it really comes down to whether the person listening to it accepts it or not and what their trance background is.

People today that are just starting to listen to trance (Big DJs) and this new sound, thats what they are going to get used to and thats what they will consider as trance. This new sound will stick with these new people (new generation), that a few years from now well start hearing another variation of trance or cheesy tracks, and then theyll be saying songs were soooo good back in 2009.

The way I see trance is the way Pop is. Its going to change. Some people still listen to music from the 70's and 80's because they consider that quality music, or its music they just grew up on. The new music they hear now doesnt appeal to them or doesnt bring you the same emotion as those favorite tracks from your time. To those that grew up in the 90's, well tunes made in the 2000s and 2010s will never be the same as those first tracks that defined Pop for you. Thats the way trance is now. Is this a good thing? For me it isnt, but not everyone is the same. Some people dig the "new trance". Ive learned to grow and accept this new style even though I define trance by what I heard a few years ago.

Disagree. I love 80s music and there's current producers that make 80s style stuff that could stand with any of the great tracks produced back then. No reason why current trance producers can't produce with the same quality as 5+ years ago. There's a few guys out there that are making quality trance, but not nearly enough to keep me (and obviously now, many other people) interested.

Agree. I also wish trance was produced like back in the day and some producers still produce tracks like back in the day and I applaud them.

it does not cost anything anymore to release a crappy track

the simple expense of vinyl would have reduced the amount of average tracks out there

There is good trance out there but it is just crammed in with a bunch of utter crap. You just have to dig a little deeper. Don't live by and expect numero uno, and all the other top dogs to be your primary medium to show you what the 'best' trance music is nowadays cuz you know and i know that the majority of it has to be filtered out. Like some of you sed, i find myself going through A LOT of tracks just to find some real gems that i like.

yes in the old days there was also trance as there was really good trance. But now there is just an overflow of untamed labels and producers who probably havent looked into the older great stuff, and who have just been accustomed to that 'new sound' so to speak. As time goes on, newer artists and DJs will follow the artists and DJs who we think are just ty, and they will think they were great, and so on and so forth.

There is so much more to write bout this but seriously i gotta wake up madd early for work tomoro so ill continue then. All kidding aside you guys should check out this mix i put together for this month. Honestly the only one track in this mix with that sort of 'new sound' to it would be track 4 but other wise its really good trance - the drivin melodic emo uplifting epic stuff like the better days.:

+ 1...well spoken (written), too many people try to compare show to show to show, event to event to event... the past is what it is..EDM will always take top spot for me (though 80's music is a close 2nd).
Thats a great quote "Nostalgia is a delusion"...classic, cant agree more.
The fact that we are all here and argue the genre shows it will always live on...Now what happened to Disco??

RORY: Great set...
