trance has been changeing its sound to me the past few years, but this year it is just so blahhhhh...WHERE IS THE EMOTION??? its just all these cheesey tech trancey wanna be trance songs
like even when i get my email from beatport tellin me this weeks hottest tracks...80% of them are the same boring sound...so yea good trance to me has gone back underground
and the top dj's are not helping the scene either by playing that crap, they are the ones who are supposed to represent for trance and by them playing and supporting cheese does not help the trance scene

speakin of dj's another thing to me that is killing the scene and i know iam gonna prob get for it, is that iam tired of dj's comming here and whoreing out their own and thats it. this is not a concert
if you look at say a tiesto track list from 10 years ago there was maybe 2 or 3 songs on that tracklist that was his own...now its atleast 40 to 50% of his set, trance did not start out by whoreing your own songs over and over and over again, so yea i dont like this new trend that dj's are doing its gettin boring and makes me just want to stay home

and to add on the first thing about the sound of trance changeing
i also spoke to a producer not too long ago and he told me something along the lines that the reason he had to change his sound was to support to newer and younger generation of trance, cause this is the new sound they want to hear and know...he does not agree with it, but it pays the bills, but hopefully the scene will change and the emotion and being original about makeing music will come back
and i can go out and actually have a good time at a trance event

there are too many producers like Paul Miller, Aly& Fila, Activa, Jon O'Bir, Ottaviani, and ths list goes on, that keep on pumping out the same sounding tracks. Alot of producers aren't creative anymore and it really sucks. It's gotten to the point where I purposely skip listening to their new beatport releases because I know what they are going to sound like. I personally like tracks that sound different than anything else out there, creative producers with different ideas and approaches to making music. overall, i think that less is more, and that there are way too many garbage tunes being released daily by garbage producers and garbage labels that release anything and everything

I partially agree besides the "no one" part. There are still some diamonds in the rough. It's just a matter of finding quality tracks and not just playing or listening to the generic half way decent stuff that more commercial DJ's play and looking for something more original. I pay more attention to "insert some noobie name here" than most producers that already have a brand name or image. Not to say they don't make good tracks but I want to hear a fresh perspective and at times it's the artists that you don't know about yet that are more worth watching out for than the ones who are already established.

The labels that went digital are not helping this problem either. Digital releases don't take much money to put out which is why they are willing to put damn near anything out. If it were back in the day and you had to spend a big chunck of money on making CD's and getting vinyls press I am sure they were be much more choosy and make sure the track was worth it.

Lately it also seems like producers are making an attempt of trying to reinvent that sound by making 2009 versions of tracks that were released when Trance was more dominant in the scene, as well as remixing oldies that are fine just the way they are and shouldnt be touched in the first place.

Another problem is the scene is just flooded with so many wanna be producers that are just trying to get somewhere so they cater they're sound to get the attention and be signed by a certain label. As a result that label get's a stigma of a certain sound and after a couple of tracks being released with that sound I am sure most of the listeners get tired of hearing it.

The moral of the story imo... Don't follow the people that you think are setting the standards, because it turns into just that... STANDARD! Give the occasional unsigned/unknown talent a chance, and finally don't be lazy...seek out tracks on your own rather than play what everyone else is playing.

So hypothetically speaking... If a producer had a hit called punk out in 2001 and remixed his own track so that sounded exactlly the same 5 years later but called it Junk. And then went around playing it like a legitimate track... That would be part of what's wrong with trance?

Recycling the same beats over and over doesn't make for a very interesting track or remix now does it? I prefer to hear something fresh. also... if it sounds like the same exact track, what was the point in the first place?

....and to answer your question in my opinion that would be part of what's wrong with the producer in question I guess :p

Don't get me wrong, it is possbile to take an older track that was great and even make it more amazing (which is rarely the case) I just feel like there is way too much of that going on lately, and a serious lack of creativity.

I'm glad each time I make a track, I use different elements each time :)

def agree there are just some tracks that shouldnt be touched. i dont care who the remixer is just leave the alone. I was actually surprised when i saw all those remixes of universal nation come out and was wondering if MIKE had anything to do with it. Only remix that was worth listening to was the Manuel Le Saux remix but still. Same thing with the remix of Silver Bath. cmon now with the remakes.
