I find any time I sit in one Genre for too long, it just gets boring. That's obvious. I also find the question "why can't songs be like what they used to be like - creative, original, and inspired!?" painful to hear; I mean - there ARE new things being done, new sounds being explored - but you can't expect it to always work in the standard trance format. These "great original songs" were great and original for the TIME AND PLACE they were released. You could release a HEAP of what is being done today back then, and the result would be the same. It caught you at a new time, a new moment in your life - that time and moment is gone now, and you just don't realize that it's more than the music that has shifted ;)

There is plenty of great stuff, listening wise, out there. Unfortunately, this music doesn't make any money, unless you're a big DJ, and being spun in the clubs. What do clubs want? The same old, drinking, money making crowd. You find the same thing in any other club - top 40, hip hop, rock - why would this genre be any different? Do you see fantastic, original, breathtaking movies coming out of Hollywood often? You go to the small guys, the poor guys, to get the goods. If you want a real change to happen, put your money into the small artists you find, the venues that support them, and boom - you initiate change. Otherwise...

Go to OTHER places - subculture events, underground parties, etc. People who aren't making any money are taking LOTS of risks. Music is like every other effort in humanity; LOTS of competition, LOTS of good, LOTS of crap, and lots of people asking for the best without really doing much to get it ;)

It's always been about Techno! There's enough funky techno to get the Housers swaying and shaking their asses, and there's enough banging Techno with melodies to get the Trancers glowsticking and rubbing each other's back with Vicks.

To me it sounds like you were solely into Trance back in the day, and didn't listen to many other genres of EDM. I could be wrong, but you say that you like Tribal and Techno and some house now. Why not back then? Why not some breaks or DnB? and not now, as in today, but back then? When you throw yourself strictly into any genre..SOLELY...there comes a time when you start to venture off because it all starts sounding the same...and for all the reasons that have been previously mentioned. There's some good trance out there still, I've heard some. But it's few and far in between, because nowadays it's about quantity..and not quality. When you had to fork out $15-20/record as opposed to $1 or download for free, dj's were alot more picky about what they would spend their $$ on.

What I meant about digging is that you aren't taking enough responsibility for the music you take in, otherwise you wouldn't be feeling as if everything is bland and commercial. It's all out there, it's always been out there, it just doesn't present itself for all of our listening pleasure :)

well if we cant HEAR it, doesnt that defeat the purpose?? :conf: I cant just be like "oh I still like trance because im GUESSING that there might be some hidden gems out there in which i have not heard, nor probably will ever hear....or I have so spend hours upon hours searching for." and who has the time for that??

My point is, I used to be able to listen to a set or come to a club and hear sets that were good to amazing the entire way through. Now, and it seems most of you agree, one must spend an absurd amount of time waiting for a good track to come along. Id rather not waste my time sifting thru to find a diamond....especially when I could be doing something more worth my while.

and there is my complaint. We are agreeing in a sense and disagreeing in another sense. ;)

I think it's more the dj that combines all that stuff that's harder to find that plays quality imo instead of just the single tracks, it's why they're not "out there and easy to find" etc.

Damned right. Heard it live 2x. Once when he played it then again when Marco V was here a few years ago. Woooooooooo.
I liked the vid for the original though so it's why I put that.

It was a question. I don't think questions can be sarcastic. It was not a rhetorical question, if that's what you mean, it was a standard type of question wherewith I intended to follow up based on the specific answer.

+1 LOL!!!

I was asking, digi, because when you said "when did I", it makes the assumption that you thought I had *stopped* clubbing, which is not really the case? slowed down due to career and age? yes. stopped? not even close ;)

I don't think he's making that assumption necessarily. I think he just wants to know b/c it has an affect on how you feel now trance music wise. ;)
