I am not Krypton.

Anyhoo, I'm not sure what I think of the show after watching the first episode... For one moment I totally spaced out and it took me some time to somewhat regain coincousness. i also fell asleep 1-2 times while watching it. and that's a shame since i just smoked a j before watching. bleh, waste of thc.

PKC can't stand Stargate.

However, and this applies to Sushi too, SG:U is meant to be more like BSG than Stargate from all reports. It's meant to have that gritty feel to it rather than the more comedy feel of SG-1 and Atlantis.

Anyway....DOWNLOADING NAU!

Sounds like an alchemist’s plan to turn into gold.

Unless somebody trustworthy gives it the all-clear I won’t be wasting my bandwidth.

krypton is comrade stalin.

On topic: I thought it was pretty good, the biggest twist was I thought they were going to actually gate into another universe. Instead they are on an ancient super ship, one that even dwarfs atlantis, deep inside our own universe.

Also, for the general scifi geeks whats with shooter McGavin having cameo rolls in scifi series where he sacrifices himself for the greater good?

I liked it. Definitely a departure from previous SG series. If they can give it direction, instead of just being stranded "out there" I think it could be good. I can see the BSG influence, that's for sure.
iTranscendence
I think you could see the BSG influence in later episodes of atlantis when the episode writing style changed from the formulaic plot resolvent at the end of every episode, to a more anime style continuing saga where one episode segues right into the next.

About bloody time! They’re only 16 years behind B5, lol.

You're comparing apples and oranges though. The reason why SG-1 in seasons 3 and 4 (ie the best years) was so popular was due to the self contained episodes and just pure fun. Now I admit this isn't everyones cup of tea but it worked and worked well for those who did like it. Atlantis while being a pretty decent show, just tried too hard to be like others where as the original SG-1 was it's own thing. Whenever you copy someone else you hardly ever even match them let alone beat them.

Just watched a bit of it. My prediction is that it's more serialised as someone has just suggested.

It's a bunch of mostly flawed characters stuck in the middle of nowhere on a malfunctioning ship that they do't really know/understand.There have already been indications of suspect motives and general dodginess going on internally so there's probably going to be an ongoing element of paranoia, mistrust and internal politics.

So the idea of good humans vs evil aliens will have to go out the window. Also there is no safe home to come back to after each "mission". To make this formula work I suspect they'll have to toss out the idea of aliens that speak English, look like humans or are easy to relate to or understand. I think so far it shows promise.
