And the kicker:

quote:
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) issued a cost estimate of the healthcare reform bill under consideration by the Senate Finance Committee, concluding it would increase federal spending by $829 billion over 10 years but be offset by enough spending cuts and tax increases to reduce the budget deficit by $81 billion.

The net number of legal U.S. residents without health insurance would reduce by 29 million over 10 years, the CBO further concluded.

Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus hailed the CBO score as "very good news" that confirms Democratic claims that the bill can expand coverage to 94 percent of Americans and lower the deficit at the same time. He said a final committee vote would be scheduled once he consults with committee members. Baucus also said he trusted the accuracy of the score since the CBO has had the legislation for several days and that the next step after a committee vote is to merge the bill with the version passed this summer by the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee

Given that news, we may now be at a turning point:

What you are failing to point out about that CBO estimate is that the "scoring" that came up with that supposed deficit reduction estimate is based on pure speculation; there IS no Max Baucus Bill... they scored it based on "concepts", and there is ZERO actual legislative text. Here is the CBO's own disclaimer:
quote:
CBO and JCT’s analysis is preliminary in large part because the Chairman’s mark, as amended, has not yet been embodied in legislative language.

It's just another ruse... Jim Boenher pointed out last night that 75 phantom amendments were added to the Baucus health care bill by Democrat leaders without the knowledge of the Republican members of the committee... after the draft was voted on and passed. But still, you think the tide is turning when every poll taken shows a majority of people DO NOT WANT this in its current form. Don't you think it's kind of sickening that our Senators are willing to vote on legislation that doesn't actually exist yet? That legislative text will be put together in secret by Harry Reid and company and it will be attempted to be rammed through before anyone can read it... AS USUAL (what happened to Obama's promise to have this all openly debated on C-SPAN? Republicans can't even get in on the meetings to see what they are crafting since May!). And to make matters worse, Harvard economics professor N. Gregory Mankiw believes we'll see 80% marginal tax rates if the Baucus "concept" passes. Read here---> http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_...-marginal-.html

But the politicians don't care... they just want to pass something, anything, regardless of what's in it and that's obvious. People who believe this will be the first time a major government program will run UNDER budget, save money, and create better quality and more efficiency are total morons.

Not that I had to be told, but thank you for admitting your general lack of knowledge about the issues at hand. In the future, please refrain from posting about these things if you really don't know what the you're talking about.

Um, I admitted to being mistaken about whether one channel showed one person on the news or not. How that translates to a general lack of knowledge of the issues at hand is beyond me.

As for that "single word" 'white', yes it's important. You made a comment that showed your ignorance and you were expecting to be taken seriously? Your post implied that it was ONLY white people who are ing insane by bringing their guns to town hall meetings, when one of the most FAMOUS incidents was that of a black man attending one of the events with a gun of his own. Whether or not you think it's insane, and I agree, I'd rather they sit peacefully with their gun displayed to make a political point than running around DT ghettos firing their handguns into the chests of fellow gang members, criminals, and innocent civilians to make off with a few hundred bucks to get them through next week. Wouldn't you agree?

Two things. First, the appearance of one armed black guy at one event, doesn't negate the fact that the others were white. I admitted truthfully that I had indeed completely forgotten about him (so much for the being one of the most famous incidents), I could have just said that I was making a general statement about the armed people at meeting, in which case my statement would have been completely correct. If you want to call my forgetfulness ignorance, by all means do as you wish. However, I have bone to pick with you which brings me to the second point.
If I shoved ignorance in my post, then what can we say about you showing racism in yours? You just casually referred to black people with guns as gang members and/or murderess, as if those are the only two variants out there. Either they are shooting each other in the ghetto, or they are just using their guns for peaceful protests. That's an even grosser generalization than I had made. And while peaceful protests are preferable to a gang war, I'm willing to take a punt, that the people who gun each other down in the ghetto, aren't the same people that show up at town halls to get a political point across.

EXCUSE ME?! I NEVER "casually referred to black people" in my mentioning gang shootings and criminal acts. I never mentioned a SINGLE race in that reference.

I mentioned gang killings, and other criminal acts. YOU read what I said and imported your own biased interpretation that singled out black people. PLEASE, oh pretty please, show a direct quote from my post that said "black people carrying guns are gang members and murderers".

It looks to me like YOUR racial prejudices are showing through bright and clear. Because I'M well aware that white people, blacks, hispanics asians, mixed-race AND any other type of racial profile you can think of are capable of committing crime.
Moongoose
Oh you never mentioned a race directly, people rarely do that nowadays, way to easy to pick them out as being racist. However you did refer to it indirectly by misusing a single word.

quote:
ghetto  [get-oh]
–noun, plural -tos, -toes.
1. a section of a city, esp. a thickly populated slum area, inhabited predominantly by members of an ethnic or other minority group, often as a result of social or economic restrictions, pressures, or hardships.

So ghetto, a section of a city populated by a minority group. Since white people make out about 70% of the US population you can hardly count them as a minority. So who exactly were you referring to then? Asians perhaps? But this is america we are talking about after all and if you say ghetto without clarification to which minority you are referring to, one can safely assume that you were thinking either about blacks or hispanics. However, considering the few previous posts, even those two options can be reduced to a single one.

Keeping this in mind, read your quote at the beginning of the post again and consider how it sounds and just what did you actually say. Then take a while to consider if you are actually a horrible person or simply some ignoramus who doesnt even understand the nuances of his own language well enough to realise that words have meanings (notice, plural!) and that you dont have to reference something directly in order to talk about it. So in the future, before you get on your high horse again to feel superior to other while lecturing them on their ignorance and usage of words, do make sure that you have your facts straight, your thoughts organised, and your vocabulary sufficient enough that you know what the words you intend to use mean.

You might be a racist, or you just might be ignorant enough that you really cant tell why what you wrote was wrong. Whatever the reason may be, I don't really care. But the one word that you willingly chose to use in your reply to me (kind of ironic really, considering that this whole exchange started because you had an issue with one word in one of my posts) is what makes you look bad.

Also, "predominantly".

There you go again interpreting things how you want instead of understanding their ACTUAL meaning. A ghettos is, first and foremost, an area where a very large number of low-income citizens live in a dense area. Their race is, and should be, secondary to the issue.

Did you know that the majority of gun crime is committed in ghettos, and low-income areas?

Did you know WHITE people ALSO live in ghettos (that exist PRIMARILY due to economic circumstances, not racial background)?

No?

Why did you assume that ONLY minorities live in ghettos?

Prejudiced much?

truth. i've been purposely postponing my physical until i get good coverage because i know something is wrong with me (not like i'm dying or anything, but i won't get into it).

and i have personally witnessed and experienced the difference in quality of healthcare between having a PPO and an HMO plan. it's all about ing money and it's about time someone put a stop to the garbage insurance companies have been getting away with for years. some of those CEOs deserve ing jail time if you ask me.
