Maher Daniel
i was never on sasha's guest list i was on john's list and the people at black and blue had switched my name around to daniel maher so they kept telling me that my name was not on the list and to go buy a ticket until i finally showed the text message i got from john and finally checked again.

it was rather entertaining i have to say

he refused to come at pepsi forum with me for that reason (we were working together at circus at that time).

personnally i don't really care, he plays good music, but he is really overrated. Many DJs offer a way better experience for a fraction the price... like creator and maher daniel lol hey only my opinion ;)

Yeah, I heard some of these things too about his attitude... But for a small glimmer of hope that he does care, I had wrote something on my phone for Sasha to read refering back to a great moment for myself from his gig last year at Guvernment in November.... I managed to get his attention and he came right over and took my phone and read it. He smiled, nodded and reached out to shake my hand in appreciation....

that was a good read 'Haus.. though some of it reminded me of a certain movie flick :p

hahahaha damn the whole expereince felt like one big haze so comparing it to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas isn't a far cry.

I'm still waiting to read about this about this traumatic experience you had at Black and Blue :)

Don't take all the credit :p I tried to convince him at Paul Ritch, and continued to tease him on facebook after that.

lol @ mtlnights thread! babe, that's fkn hilarious!...fyi, the guy was rude right off the bat; he should have listened to what we were saying instead of giving attitude he later couldn't account for...but whatever, it was sorted in less than 5 mins so no harm done i guess...working guestlists sucks so i take my hat off to you...thanks mike, we did enjoy our b&b :)

so review of my 1st b&b:

got there at 215am, zero line-up for guestlist, zero line-up for coatcheck (which was graciously included w/ our glist, thanks :)), zero line-up to get searched...waaaaaaaaaay more efficiently run than any "massive" i've been to before, so kudos to organizers for that...no ing around, just walked into b&b within 7 minutes of my getting to palais des congres...complete polar opposite of bal en blanc...very curious to hear real exact figures...cuz that place looked like it had way less than 5000 people in there...

decor: next to none, expected more than just bunches of black & blue balloons stuffed into corners...but i don't go to massives for decor; i go for the bookings that are to my taste...so this decor thing is kind of irrelevant for me...

lights: unimpressed, although there WERE a lot of lights...i wasn't a fan of the hundreds of strings with a small bulb at the end of each one...and there was zero focus in terms of lighting on the DJ booth...not a big deal, but still...maybe it would've added some ambience b/c ambience is exactly what this party was lacking...

i found it very empty for the most part...tons of walking room & even smack right in front of the booth there was tons of room to walk around...nice mix of homo/hetero crowd...not as many gays as i expected...is it just me or was there a big population of the 21 and under crowd...lots of youngish looking peeps...maybe i'm getting old? i'm only 24, i can't be getting old already! anyways, point being...the crowd looked a lot younger than I expected...and they just were not into anything that was being played...no vibe, no atmosphere, i would let out a yell hoping for others to chime in but all i got was dazed stares...kinda sad, really...

and of course, the music...i had zero interest in seeing the other DJs in that line-up...sasha & john were the only artists i went there to see. and they were the only ones i heard...each of my friends said franco fabi was totally off in terms of mixing, progression, set programming, etc...it's what i predicted based on the 4 times i've heard him, so i knew i didn't miss much...and as for lippe, was told he played very commercial (like, even more so than his usual), diva-ish, tribal-ish, etc...not my thing, so no comment i guess?

in terms of back-to-back, sasha and john did a significantly better job at Tribe's AMC party...in terms of solo sets, sasha was just off-point that night (in the sense that this was like my 5th time seeing him and it was defo not sasha at his best)...but that being said, he wasn't BAD persey. conflicting, right? it's hard to clarify...he played some stellar but he also played stuff that just was not to my liking...he touched upon everything: prog (good prog), tech(no), prog(no), acid, that latin-flavoured techy-tribalish which i'm warming up to..and even some (very few) diva-ish vocals thrown in the mix...which, imo, means he was trying to please the crowd a little...he was exhausted, played something like 5 gigs straight...so, understandable that he wasn't at his prime that night...i completely disagree that mr. coe is overrated...he's still a pioneer, always will be...no one can take that away from him & he's still an ever-evolving artist; this is why i respect him and his work so damn much...and i promise he wasn't high despite what everyone is saying...and his bad attitude is defo something i've heard and read about butttttt he was sweet as to me and maher every time we've seen him so i can't say anything there...so overall, sasha = 7/10...lowest i've ever given him. ever...

now let's talk about sir john...ing diggers man, he gets me every time...totally stole the show away from sasha...the goosebumps, the emotional rush, everything i look for in music...digweed consistently delivers to me. remember how on fire he was at AMC in 2007? i think his sound has evolved beautifully since then & he was just so spot on...perhaps the equivalent of how he played in 2007...yeah, i'd say he was just as good, if not, better than at AMC...i'm talking about him alone. it's a pure dream to watch him mix just because it's so effortless for him yet the momentum that comes out of his music is just retardedly rock'n'rollin'...smooth, flawless, epic, cutting-edge, true talent, ahhhhhhhh what else can i say? a true artist...so much respect for him. so overall, ing 9.5/10...defo one of the most intriguing digweed sets i've heard...think i've seen him 5 or 6 times now...a sweet blend of bang, chug, chunk, 'tude, poof & umph that got everyone going all ing night. the king, hands down...sir john <3 how i love thee...

sasha and john finished at 7am, on the dot pretty much...dave seaman came on & it was just too fast for me, bpm wise...i'm finding that anything over 128 is just too much for me...caught 30 mins of his set and was unimpressed...his crowd interaction was a little over the top, his mixing was very predictable annnnnnnd get this...he drinks vodka with diet coke, ewwwwwww! :p i'm told it's a very british thing...

everyone i met was super hospitable & just genuine...you know, you meet a ton of fake retarded people in this industry and they don't talk to you, they think their don't stink, they have attitudes, and honestly, it's just nice when people are sweet & kind to you...and it's genuine...there's defo some integrity behind this event. i felt that all night. thanks to the staff for being so nice and just for making us feel welcome :)

oh and im the luckiest fan alive, getting to watch sasha and john upclose throughout their entire set...chatting with them, chilling, laughing...john looks so jolly all the time, kinda like santa should look :p it was just a super sureal experience, similar to AMC, and i'm really lucky i got to be there...so, thank you, thank you, thank youuuuu! i really am a lucky SOB...

if y'all keep up with these kinds of bookings, this defo won't be my last black and blue...overall considering all factors, i give my night 7.5-8/10. diggers really saved it for me...

we ditched at 730am and headed to stereo to meet up with john...stayed at stereo for an hour & couldn't deal with being awake anymore. soooooooo tired & sooooooo sober...I had a forensic psyc exam tuesday morning at 1145am so i couldn't get wasted; so i went home, passed out by 10am...woke up at like 7pm...best sleep ever :)

hope y'all had fun! this isn't my best review but whatever, it's 100% truthful haha :)

Yes. That was fun stuff!

Great review! You described the Digweed sound and experience so well. I want more Sasha and Digweed. Luckily we've got Sasha on November 7th here in Toronto.... but no Digweed on the horizon.... I will just have to wait...

I totally agree Erika.... I definitely had 2007 flashbacks when Diggers played his set... I still up to now remember moments on the dance floor when me and friends are just in that ZONEEEEE))))

Digweed will always be one of my favorites...

Dr Philth said to keep the matter confidential

Nice review Stereo. The whole Seaman set was very on this year, however. Last year his set was so mediocre I felt like he was booked just for his last name :p
84th Ave.
i dont know is it just me but Digweed @ pepsi fourm was playing second fiddle to Sasha that night, i felt like Sasha dominating the night, and John was just there slowing things down ( he did play some monster tunes no doubt)

at BnB, it was the opposite, Digweed was pulling the strings and it was more of 'his kind of sound', totally destroying the place

If i was a girl i would offer myself sexually to Mr. Diggers :p :D :p
