Those tickets were sold out last week. If you feel uncomfortable waiting, you should go ahead and purchase presales. |

i dont feel uncomfortable about anything that has to do with vanguard, never paid to set foot at the place, dont plan on doing so anytime soon.
A wise man once said Los Angeles is the place you stop off to get a hamburger on the way to San Francisco!:toocool: |

Being on a general free guestlist is always a risk on when it's gonna be a busy night because it generally means you can get any free until capacity is filled, unless you are on some key person's list (promoter own, headlining DJ, club owner, managers, etc).
If they had a discount list (like $15 before 11), they should honor that at least so as long as the club isn't at capacity. |

1. Kristina Sky played a pretty good opening set. \
2. I experienced the WORST response in Security in my clubbing history, Right around 12:00am, Saw a fight bust out tot he left of the stage about 15-20 feet from me. The fight was between two guys and two girls (guy on guy, girl on girl). I start screaming at two security people, the person on the steps at the stage and another guy. They sit there and basically ignoring me for a good 45 seconds or a minute. When I'm sitting there trying to scream at the person on the stage, the fight quickly moves and runs a bunch of people over. Nails in the back, ac ouple people went down, a huge crowd got shoved over. I sit there and watch this f'n fight go on for another 20 seconds around me -- girl beating some other girl ont he gruond, guy trying tot tackle guy. I am frantically trying to get security who just seem to stand there and do NOTHING for another 30 seconds after that while the fight keeps on going tot he last booth to the left back-side of the stage , in the corner. Finally I see security come. Sad part is the security people I tried to get the attention of just didn't give a . Knocking people over , blood on the ground, everything. I've seen a fight in basically every other club I've gone to more than 5 times, and in those there would be security tacking people within 20-30 seconds. This stuff went on for a good 90 seconds to a minute before I saw one security person move. I got really f'n pissed (after I and Michelle got tackled by this fight) and when the security person on the stairs finally decided to get down from the steps (he was 10-20 feet from this fight and another securty person 10-15 feet on the other side of the fight and they did NOTHING).
Crowd safety should be the first thing on every security person's mind, and I saw a lack of effort...oh wait, nevermind NON-EFFORT by security...at least those two. It was piss-poor and pitiful.
This is on Vanguard, not the promoter.
3. SvD played a good set. Just too bad the crowd was a crapshoot. not the size, just the energy, enthusiasm. There was zilch in the crowd. You had your couple of fans up front, but for the most part the crowd was just boring. Not even a zombie crowd. Just a boring, uninsipring crowd. Really kept the energy/vibe from getting anywhere positive.
4. There was a bit of humor. And that was their attempt at Kryo. holy crap is was funny! They ever put those kryo things in there befoer? haven't heard of it. It only sprayed out about five feet from the pipes, above the crowd, and that's it. It was a dinky little system.
Anyhow, great music overall...I danced more than I have in awhile, but the worst security I've com3e across (Maybe it was just the two people who decided to do nothing and not a reflection of the entire security staff, but still. I'd rather feel uncomfortable around security that I know will do their job if something breaks out than around security that looks professional but doesn't do jack to protect you), and the crowd was vanilla. Guess the good crowd went to other places last night. Oh well, least I got my SvD fix. |

| You should have went to Avalon. What the heck were you thinking son??? Vanguard sucks. Giant and Insomniac need to find a better venue. That place is spooked to hell. I always get weird vibes there. There is a very odd energy about that building. Great DJs play there, awesome event coordinators and production teams, but the venue is just horrid. The only cool thing about the venue is the stage, lighting, and sound. Other than that, it is way too overcrowded and poorly set up. I think it was an old ice or meat factory in the past, right? They must have chopped up some bodies in there and the ghosts are still around. ;) |

Hehehe.
It was our anniversary (Michelle's and I's first date was at Monster Massive on Oct 31, 2003 :p)....it was her choice. I could see either SvD or SanderK/Porter, but she's a trance-head and it's harder for her to get into house. Very picky. We wanted to avoid MM at all cost (we went last year because it's Markus...and could avoid the crowd :p). If Lawler was at Avalon, prob woulda went there...since she really liked him last year at MM.
I left the choice up to her. She chose SvD. I wasn't going to complain, since he's tied for my fav trance DJ.
BTW, it's a shame that they have that lighting rig, but their lighting people suck or something. The laser is underutitlized (and they coudl add props to the cieling to really have that thing go nuts), and the lighting is just boring...ike the crowd was. The rig does have the streak of lights that can go back & forth like the EndUp has in SF (which is awesome!), just they aren't bright enough. You don't even notice them unless you light up. If they were super bright and had massive streaks going across the across like how it is at the EndUp (where is' awersome!), that'd be cool.
The sound wasn't in tip-top shape (it's Funktion One, gotta keep it tuned!). It def was not crisp & clear.
The kryo was still funny!! We heard them doing a test blast (with nothing coming out) when we first got there, and I was like "is that kryo???" and noticed the tankjs...then saw these little dink line to a couple pipes on the end. It was just a wasted opportunity.
Seems like people on here are going there less and less after all the rage about the place when it reopened....maybe that's why. |

thats funny, I am the complete opposite of your quote. I get the weird vibes from Avalon...I feel dirty walking thru but I love the talent that comes thru. to each their own. ;) |

Oh yeah, $11 for a shot of WELL vodka is f'n absurd ($13 for vodka-rebull). It's a an everyday person's club, not some high-end place.
It wasn't that much last time I was there either. I think it was $10 $11 for a vodka+redbull |

Ya know, first couple times I went to Avalon it was that way, but not since I moved down here. They could spice up central part between the front and the main room. That part feels oober dirty. |
