Own a GPS? that's what I do! lol

Honestly - I'm not popular or important enough to be constantly checking my emails and I don't like the idea of constantly being attached to my phone and distracted from everyone else. I mean really, how long are you ACTUALLY in line to get movie tickets? 2 minutes? 5? You usually go WITH someone so you have someone to talk to... like I said. Unnecessary. :o

I was at the Verizon store last night looking at the new LG Env Touch.

Out of curiosity I tried to punch in a few numbers, and made a mistake in every single one. Also, to make a phone call, I have to first find the little button on the screen that says "Dialer" and tap that tiny icon.

What if I'm driving? Seriously, why would anyone go for touch screens, they're so unusable :conf: or is it just me?

You don't carry the GPS in your pocket. You can't look up dynamically. GPS units are only as up to date as the data it contains. Google Maps is updated 100% of the time. Has more features. Has satellite view. The list goes on. There is only one thing a GPS unit does that Google Maps does not. Turn-by-turn directions spoken out loud. Google Maps also does the searching for things better. You just type hotels and it finds hotels in the area of the GPS coordinates you are in. And since it is connected to the net, you can see more info, reviews, etc.

They really aren't, you just used a piece of interface. On my phone, I just hit the call button and it brings up the dialer. Or I can go to the "favourites" tab that has all my self selected favourites. Or I can just hit the contacts tab and browse for whoever. Not hard at all.

yes i do have a GPS, but gave it to my parents, since they need it more than i do. :D

and GPS does give you lists of hotels and restaurants in your current location, but what it doesn't do is quick access to reviews like a phone with net access does. :D

as for movies, sometimes 3-5 minutes in line depending on the day, and i usually try to get to the movies 10-15 minutes before to get a good seat.

and yeah all my friends have smart phones, check the net while waiting, and we still have time to converse inbetween. :p

Yea.... I live in Orlando. Which is a bunch of streets. Where you don't walk. So I don't need a GPS in my hand because I pull up to the place I need to be at, park, and then go back to my car and go home. It's not some massive city where you can get lost. And I don't travel enough to really utilize those features. Same goes for hotels, movie reviews, etc. Honestly the woman at the store was trying to sell me some crazy phone with all those features and then at the end was like "ok yea no, you REALLY don't need this" :p

Right, but it isn't dynamic like Google Maps.

some GPS systems are dynamic. they're just the upper tier ones that are a bit more expensive. the standard generic models you have to do manually by connecting them to your computer.

That's a trick question since I don't like phones in general, but I particularly dislike touch screen phones for a number of reasons:

- The absence of tactile feedback requires you to keep your eyes glued to the screen while operating the phone. Besides being a safety hazard, this makes multitasking onerous.
- They waste screen space by putting buttons on-screen, and to varying degrees have issues with fingerprints.
- They have poor interoperability with a far more useful piece of equipment: gloves.

1. Tactile feedback exists in a select few, but not all.
2. Yeah this can get annoying.
3. This is specific to capacitive type touchscreens. The iPhone is capacitive whereas most other touchscreens are resistive. Resistive responds differently, and as suck, is usable with gloves or a stylus.
