While your here (and I know it's not technically your project), what's going on with the Andain album? |
Last time I spoke to Josh he said he still planned to finish the production and release the album. I've heard most of the demos and there are some pretty amazing songs actually. Ones I like even better than Beautiful things, which is a great track imo. I really hope an agreement can be reached and this music can come out, it needs to be released but of course this is out of my hands...
On a side note Dave and I are writing new material with Dave Penner of Andain. We have a track we all wrote featuring Nadia Ali on vocals that we're finishing up now.

According to VSE they are all DCOs.
Maybe I'm a bit odd but I hardly ever keep patches saved unless I'm working on a specific track, so memory doesn't matter that much to me. I have been looking at all three of the Junos lately and thinking about snapping one up because some of my favorite artists have used them and I like what I hear on demos.
Yeah I remember Joel (Deadmau5) mentioning that a while ago in the production forum. That's what sucks about these old synths, but I'm willing to put up with it for the sound!
Thanks for all the info, sorry to talk your ear off with all these questions. :) |
I'd get a 106 in good shape and then buy up as many working voice chips as you can. We plan to do the same thing. You can't go wrong with the 106 it's an amazing synth for the money. You can easily pick one up last I checked for $300-$500.
Have you checked out the Dave Smith Instruments Tetra?

| More importantly...why does Dave Dresden always need a "production partner"? |

About the music, it does sound quite like Some Polyphony. I think the chord progression sounds similar, though not exact.
I'd still venture it is a coincidence. Kinda like Purple Haze - Eden probably coincidentally sounds like The Sky Was Pink. I doubt Doorn drew inspiration from Fake, though I could be wrong. |
We were a remix duo until recently, and our first few originals that we wrote (some with Dave Penner, Nadia Ali and one with John Debo) were vocal tracks. I'd say that for both of us working with vocals is what comes naturally for us. Instrumentals are a new thing for us as a duo, Redhead being our first. I will say that love it or hate it the club mix works well when we play it out. With that said we're always striving to be better with every track we do.
Cheers,

Ha ha ha, well I guess you may never know... but I assure you I'm a real person. You can see my photos and bio on our site. I've been friends with both Dave and Josh for 10+ years. I've been producing, engineering and remixing since long before either of them wrote their first track.

Why not? lots of people work in pairs. It's whatever someone likes really. Some people work better alone, some people like to work in a duo or a band...

We're only doing some limited appearances together at this time. We've done 2 gigs and I've been with him at about 10 shows over the past year. The last one was at Monday Night Social in LA recently. We spent the day mixing at our friends studio, did an interview and then we all went out to Dave's gig.
