Like Bas said, know your place. But obviously you're not gonna put a mashup DJ opening up for Digweed. That would be a wrong move on the promoters behalf. Just because a song is 122 doesn't mean it's mellow or hard. The BPM isn't the only deciding factor. The songs structure and energy have a lot to do with it. |
The biggest WTF booking by a pro I've ever seen is MSTRKRFT opening for Digweed. That was godawful. |

Funny thing is that I played for almost 4 hours. I don't pre program my sets. For the most part I played some deeper stuff. I played a few bangers in there but no electro or full on vocal stuff. I brought it back down actually about 30 min before he was going to go on, because I know you got to let the headliner do his thing. However I was very conscious of what was going to happen after my set. I recorded my entire set and will upload it right now so you can be the judge. |
I didn't get a chance to listen to the whole mix, but the opening track is beautiful. I can't wait to listen to the entire mix. |

Wtf....
I have to agree with someone earlier when they said that Reza was just NOT the person that should've opened for Lawler.
That was just an odd lineup to begin with. Poor Lawler. |

LOL, I was just talking about this with a friend who lives in Dallas like two days ago. :wtf:
He told me that MSTRKRFT was the opening act for Digweed on pretty much all that US tour. :stongue: |

on the flip side, headline DJ's should be really respectful to the opening DJ and show appreciation.
Some classy headliners that showed respect and were extremely pleasant to work with:
Ferry Corsten
Paul van Dyk
Cosmic Gate
Kyau & Albert
Infected Mushroom
There are some more but I can't think of them right now.
I won't mention the s but I had a few situations where It took everything in me to hold back from telling them what I really think.
One thing that bugs me is when the headline DJ hits pause on your cdj or abruptly shuts off the music without mixing out or fading. Completely disrespectful and lame and it reflects on their overall persona. It unfortunately happens once in a while... |

I think it can be done tastefully if they give you some props on the mic, point at you, and start clapping, but if they just shut it off with no warm good vibes then that is kind of lame. |

I didn't enjoy the female DJ that opened for Digweed @ Vanguard earlier this year either though. Low bpm that went nowhere. |

That was Chloe, and neither did I. I agree, her set went nowhere, absolutely terrible flow. |
