@Echosystm, yeah i heard the ol Events arnt to bad as well (but, im pretty keen on the yamahas, tho whats the cost your selling them for?). And, with the power thing if someone does know could they let me know that would be great. I know that while i was in the states all i did was use an adapter for aussie over ther, so i gather the power outputs are the same.

@sushipunk, i didnt even know ebay had that option, thanks for that!

HS80's all the way i think!

Yes, I do - definitely one of my best decisions, although I will admit that I had a very tough time deciding between the Yamahas and the Mackies.

$500ish. They still seem to go for $900-1,000.

The power outputs are completely different. Australia is 240v @ 10A, USA is 110v @ 20A. This is why you need a step down transformer, if they don't have universal power supplies (most don't). You can only use an adapter if the power supply is universal.

With monitors, you'll need a very high quality/capacity step down transformer, so you'll need to factor in about another $100-200 at least. Personally, I would buy locally.

We don't have that problem. Mackies are many times more expensive here in Australia. HS80Ms are $700USD, $800AUD. Mackie HR624s are $950USD, $2,400AUD. Pretty ridiculous lol.

The only monitors worth buying in Australia are Behringers, Events (Australian owners, I believe), Yamahas and Adams. Everything else costs too much.

I have krks and hs50 and hs80's. I originally bought the krks for my dj setup and the hs50's for production but soon found that they didn't give the low end response I was looking for.

The hs80's are EXTREMELY easy to learn and aside from the top end expensive as monitors there's nothing I'd use over them.

Def do NOT buy krk's. Great speakers for listening because of the great bass but mids and his sound way off. Horrible studio production monitors.

somehow we ended up with two monitor threads in a week..!

the Events you have Echo seem not to bad, as i read up on them a little, a far as i can see from what i have read is they suffer a little in the low end but, i may be wrong! but apparently most monitors around this price range suffer the same problems.

But they do seem viable in many ways. I was speaking with someone and apparently companies that make most stuff factor in the variations of Voltages. but wil look into it a little more.

thanks heaps for the help though peoples

A lot of monitors have switched transformers meaning you can select the voltage - many manufacturers do this becuase it's cheaper to add the option than producing two different models for two different votages, howver, Echo is perfectly right to warn you to stay away froma speaker that would require a step up or down transformer as the cheap ones will make the speakers sound absolutely horrible.

The events for that money are great - I'm not sure you can find a better deal right now and frankly they will be very good monitors for you to produce on.

I think your decision is either having to pony up the money for HS80's or snapping up the events.

@Echo DJRANN is on your side (-; yeah i am in agreement Rann. reviews i have read suggest that the Events are at the professional level for audio production, tho only lacking in the low end
(that particular model). Echo, i will keep you in mind an PM you later to see if your still keen to off load them. Im just sussing things out, but soon very soon i will be out to buy.

Ok i see, well Rann, if you had lets say $1000 us dollars what would you get, HS80m's, Events, or something else (completely different) like Mackie's, dynaudio etc but value for money of course. Im happy to save a little more if it means me investing in something worth while hence this thread of debate and discussion. But, i did feel that for around 900-1000 australia which is 800ish US i could get a damm worthy pair..!

The problem is I dont really know the tech side of things much, although been at it making beats on and off for a couple of years. only now am I getting into the detail of it all. but,

I really really appreciate the information from everyone too!

I think for you starting out, $1000 monitor speakers is more than enough to see you through for many years - anything more and I just get the feeling that you won't really be able to use the full potential of you you've bought for a very long time.

For new: my recommendation is the HS80's - I've tried everything in a head to head shootout in different listening environments and the HS80's are currently the best sounding and most useable speakers on the market in their price range, Period. Every other speaker I tried has some kind of fault or drawback but I couldn't really find anything wrong with the HS80's all things considered and I found them very easy to hear on, especially for EDM.

My only other suggestion at that price range (or slightly less) is getting hold of second hand mackie HR824 mk1's in good condition but seeing as they tend to go high prices new in Aus, it seems this will be quite difficult.

If you're going to spend less however, buy the Event TR6's as their good monitors and at least you're buying them from someone you know.

Basically, get HS80's if you've got the money, or echo's TR6's if you want to go for less.

Remember to buy a passive volume control like the SM pro audio nano patch or higher, decent but not stupidly expensive cables (not monster) and some good speakers stands or auralex mopads.
