| Get a Velociraptor or a SSD for your OS and important apps, and a 500 GB drive (7200 rpm) drive for storage. Trust me it's worth it. |

From memory all Intel quad cores use a LGA 775 socket so as long as the mobo is set up to take a CPU with that pin setup then yes.
Then you will have to decide which chipset you want, depending on what features you want (RAM type/speed, on board gfx, etc) |

Ok, cool. Cheers :) I have no interest in onboard gfx, since my last gfx card died about 3 months ago, so I have a pretty new nVidia GeForce 9600GT. I'm not intending this to be a gaming computer or anything, so that will do me fine. |

To bring it up again, what do you guys think about Win7 Home 64bit? I've been running Win7 beta on my laptop for quite a few months now, so will the Home 64bit be particularly different?
I'm not using it for anything hardcore (I think?)
5 computers on the home network (2 desktop, 3 laptop). All of them are running XP Pro except one of the laptops (which I'll have to do something about in March when the Win7 beta thing runs out).
Is it going to be a pain in the arse to network these if I get Win7? I know there is a patch I can install on the XP computers to allow them to see the Vista/Win7 type of networking, but the other computers' XP installs have... how do I put this... questionable legitimacy... :clown: |

No and no (although I have heard Vista/7 to XP networking can be hit and miss, definitely won't be effected by your "questionable legitimacy" though. |

Probably won't need anywhere near 750W. In fact it would be a stretch for Sushi to reach 600W.
If you are getting the cheaper Core 2 Duos they will be Socket 775 so just get any mobo with a P45 chipset. |

I've only tried installing the network patch onto XP computers from the Microsoft site, and they check your validation. If it doesn't pass, then no dice.
Is there a way to install 'said patch' manually? Because that would be awesome, and I'd totally buy you a beer. |

haha g'day sir. Nah, when i joined, each of the busier forums had at least 3-4 at least active mods, with some local mods like jeff from ukta also doing many of the main forums. We had less trolls in those days too, and people were generally more welcoming. meh :p |
