Seriously, I don't know why people who aren't enthusiasts feel the need to build their own. You'll get far better value for money, and warranty, by buying a complete system from Dell.
End of.
Don't know if they ship to Aus though. |
Of course they do, it's Dell and Australia isn't exactly a 3rd world country.
They are overpriced though. Dells are good but you can get far better bang for buck on desktops from other retailers. Big brand companies are for buying laptops, not desktops. |

I don't know about the prices in Oz, but going on UK prices:
Q8200 - £104
Asus P5Q Pro P45 - £91
4GB Kingston HyperX 6400 RAM (2x2GB) - £76
Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA-II - £63
Corsair VX 450w PSU - £56
Total - £392
Alternatively:
Intel i5 750 - £150
Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 Intel P55 - £83
OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666 - £76
Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA-II - £63
Corsair VX 450w PSU - £56
Total - £430
For the sake of £40, I'd go down the i5 route. |
Thanks Kroot, very helpful :)
I'm thinking I'll most likely go for the i5, since it really isn't much more expensive, even here in Oz.
I assume an i5 setup like the above would be handled fine by a 64bit OS? |

LOL, you don't need a brand new computer for modding. |

Nice.
Ok, last question for you guys.
Is it worth going for Win7 Pro/Ultimate 64bit, or will the Win7 Home 64bit do the job just fine?
I've had the Win7 beta on my laptop for months now, and it's very nice to use, but the Ultimate version is fairly pricey, and I'll have to buy another copy for my laptop in March when the beta version starts rebooting it every 2 hours :p |

You are solid with the Home edition, the Ultimate Edition sports a high price for not too many extra features. |

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking. I mean, I'm not going to be doing anything particularly hardcore or out of the ordinary. |

Really Stu, what will you be doing with this computer, besides modding =p. Anything super intensive? |
