| Well, the main difference is that more than a genre, "minimal" is an approach to making art. In this case, music. |

Hi there, what is th difference between Minimal and Tech-house? Am l right in thinking that they are pretty similar types of music?
Thank you for clarification:) |
minimal - adjective
tech house - noun
minimal tech house - sub sub sub genre
don't use 'minimal' as a genre - minimalism is an avant garde musical movement.
you probably mean 'minimal techno' or 'minimal tech house' |

It is well confusing! lol
People like to experiment and mix lots of different styles of music together, hence the sounds overlap and they sound a bit similar |

Like nefardec and myself explained before, "minimal" is not a genre per se, it is an approach to make art, including music. Or as he described it, an avant-garde movement.
Of course you can have "minimal tech-house", which would be tech-house made with a minimal approach, which is to strip it to it's most basic and fundamental elements. |

| Schadenfreude |
one is made to showcase sound design (mnml)
the other (tech house) is usually made just to be a dance floor smasher aka to be considered more as actual dance music. It will use the same "sounds" as a lot of the mnml producers use (clickity clack pling plong and such) but at the end of the day they still have more layers and samples than a mnml track.
either way who cares, good music is the only genre that counts. |

Beatport would disagree with you there...
oh and why you're asking a trance forum is beyond me! I'm amazed you haven't been hung drawn and quartered for even mentioning the M word!
Almost as bad as saying Deadmau5!
Minimal (speaking incredibly generally) is usually a bit slower than tech house and has less clearly melodic elements. Tech house is usually closer to house music in terms of speed and bounceyness (getting technical here). However, many producers of house who dip into the minimal artforms may brand it as tech house as many people are scared of the word minimal.
Its all fish at the end of day... |
