We hate bad music and we love good music. That's pretty much it.

And if you paid any attention to that moronic thread, it was pretty much one person hating on something that she obviously has no ing clue about.

And "sarcastic" is not the same as "ironic".

Cuntbutler.

Just curious but... what comes up as good music in your very official sounding opinion?

Why do you hate siding with Beatport?

...I hardly think that they should be an authority just because they are large and exist. :)

What's the alternative?

My taste is way too ample. EDM-wise? If you actually care, just check the links on my sig. ;)

As much as I hate siding with Beatport, "minimal" has become a de facto genre; like it or not.

have to agree with this.

I'm always curious to know what people listen to.

Specially people who talk the talk like they walk the walk.

It still doesn't mean it's correct.

All jokes aside...

Listen to some old tracks on Wolf + Lamb that are labeled Minimal. Then go listen to Minus tracks that are labeled Minimal. Not even close.

Oh yeah, definitely...I wasn't saying Beatport should be the standard for what stuff is labeled, as they indeed have never been any authority on genres. But you can't really deny that this "mnml" sound can be considered a genre in and of itself by now, which for the most part would be associated with Minus and their ilk. That being said, most educated people still realize that real minimalism is an aesthetic that can be applied to all forms of art, let alone techno music.

At the end of the day though, its just different names people tag on to and describe music. And spinning records is serious ing business.

BP and others use trends and marketing categories under the guise of genre. It may be a legitimate (albeit cynical) way to look at genre, but it's not the only way.

'MNML' is a meme, a trend. It operates on a greater level than genre, infiltrating it.

Genre is more formal having to do more with conventions, and less about cultural content.

However, the line often gets blurred as the conventions themselves get wrapped up in the culture that appropriates them. I think especially in our modern media saturated world it is inevitable that content is increasingly more important than convention - the conventions actually seem to be all melding into one big universal multi-medium.

@OP -
tech house is a union of techno and house. typically this means house music produced with techno methods, attitudes, aesthetics, or a union of the techniques of techno (vertical layering, repetition, electronically generated sounds) with the song structure, tempo, and beat, and club pedigree of house music.

there many ways to combine techno with house music. if it's more minimal techno, then you get minimal tech house music. if it's deeper techno or deeper house, you get some deep tech house, etc

in the end these are all stupid labels that attempt to categorize things for easier consumption.

I wrote on this forum because this is the most popular EDM forum, hence will get more opinions.
I think they should really break this forum into a few EDM categories i.e. Trance Discussion, House Discussion etc....why not do it? That way l have asked in the appropriate music section

oh and why you're asking a trance forum is beyond me! I'm amazed you haven't been hung drawn and quartered for even mentioning the M word!

Almost as bad as saying Deadmau5!

Minimal (speaking incredibly generally) is usually a bit slower than tech house and has less clearly melodic elements. Tech house is usually closer to house music in terms of speed and bounceyness (getting technical here). However, many producers of house who dip into the minimal artforms may brand it as tech house as many people are scared of the word minimal.

Its all fish at the end of day...
