California/Vegas Event Listings Sub-Forum Discussion (pg. 2)

imo the more you subdivide, the emptier the forums will look, feel and become. constant activity in a forum is part of its appeal, for me at least. but i wouldn't mind not having to maintain a calendar anymore and just let the promoters promote their events. the problem for sftas is that you'll probably only get coverage for less than 10% of what's actually going on that way.

My main, BIG worry is that A TON of threads on the west coast boards are for events, and that's where the core (as well as most) of the discussion seems to be. I worry that this will kill the flow/feel of the west coast board. Just fear that you'll get only a few new threads a day in the main west coast board, and the sub-forum will be where a lot of the discussion goes. That also requires more digging for new users to possibly find good discussion. I looked at the New York boards and Toronto boards. It seems like they don't get a lot of daily discussio on their own, and you don't even see a lot of participation in the event sub-forum.

You raise a good point and have given me an idea I didn't think about prior. That is, promoters go to the event forum to CREATE their event, and you can click in there to see an organized (date sorted) list of events + their related discussion - also - the normal cali forum will also list those threads (alongside all other threads) based on last reply time. This will also make it easier to see who is bumping their threads (for the purpose of bumping) and they can be dealt with accordingly.

I'll implement this in the next few hours...

You bring up a good point. If this "replaced" what you did, a lot of the smaller (largely house/prog/techno) gigs would never get any mention on here...though there's plenty of us who are into that stuff.

Sounds like an idea to start off with....but the next question...

...if some promoter who isn't familiar with the new setup or is in a rush to post events (as a lot of the time, the promtoer is just going through a list of websites and posting all the deets as fast as possible), what's to stop them from just posting the event on the regular WC board and not the sub-board. They may never see the sub-board is even at the top when all the other events are listed right htere on the main WC board too.

Anyhow, maybe something we all just figure out how to handle as we go along...but something to keep in mind. :p

I'll have to include something when you start a new thread in the West Coast forum that asks if it is an event or not.... eventually, over time, people will get used to it.
DaveT
When I submit an event and preview it, I have to re-set the date in the drop down menus. Makes me not want to preview things to make sure it's OK!

And the 6-week restriction thing is really restricting here! :p
DaveT
It's buggy still (imagine you are workingon it?)

I put

WED.DEC.31 - orn*Niclas, John Beaver @ Spundae (Ruby Skye)

First, the date is FRI.NOV.27 -- I put it right int he drop down menu, and when I go to the actual thread the date is right.

Also, it's missing the city [SF] in the thread listing and it cut off "Marco V, B" from "Marco V, Born*Niclas, John Beaver @ Spundae (Ruby Skye)
DaveT
Odd, either someone fixed it or it fixed itself. But it's still listing it out of chronological order. Has it as the very last thread. :p

Fixed

Ok - fixed the form submission/preview thing.

Also, I have to revamp those guidelines - it used to be 6 weeks but in general you see the current calendar month + 2 calendar months ahead.
DaveT
But what about events more than two months...like this one!

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...hlight=etd.love

Basically up to the promoter to come back, start a new thread, and delete the old one? Or should they just not post the event until 2 months before it...

Sure it's worked well in the other city subforums...just want to know how the handle it. A lot of the big events in Cali are announced months in advance (with teaser flyers, etc) and will even post lineups 3-4+ months in advance sometimes.
