What about the guestlists? Different people have a guestlist for the same event.

I think this will be great.

The rules state:

(2) MAX of ONE Event listing per club per night
The only exception to this rule is if a party is happening in another room of a large complex and it has its own separate entrance/cover/dj lineup/flyer/etc.

* If multiple promoters are promoting the same night at a given club then the above still applies - the promoters in question are solely responsible for discussing who is reponsible for what. TranceAddict and its moderators will not be mediators for such disputes.

(3) Promoters wanting to advertise their guestlist *MUST* use the pre-defined Guestlist Form when initially posting their event. Please do NOT post guestlist details (or promo) within replies in the event thread or in any roll call threads.

(4) Guestlists are NOT allowed to be listed/promoted in signatures - we have a forum for this. Links to events will still be allowed - no oversized text or banners. If you wish to purchase banner space, email [email protected]

----

In other words, if someone went to the trouble of creating an event thread and setting up their guestlist then why should someone else be allowed to just reply with their guestlist details and offer up the same thing with less effort? First come, First serve imo

Swamper, here's a scenario.

A lot of clubs out here will book DJs who can bring people. Those DJs know this and go out and try to get people to sign up on their list. They go around promoting the night themselves, though in most cases they aren't being paid anymore than just for the DJ gig itself. They do the promoting on their own to get people on their list to come. So they can have a better chance of being bookd again.

Quite a few of the DJs regularly post on TA.

The one guestlist per event rule basically makes it so that if the promoter doesn't put up a list first (which they often don't), it's basically a race for the first DJ to know he has a list to come on here and post a list, and the rest are screwed. That kinda sucks for them...

Often times, DJs might have open lists before the event organizer does itself (often the week of the event). So if a DJ has a list, the promoter itself can't promote its own list for its own night. And a lot of other times, the promoter itself doesn't have an oepn guestlist and it may be only through certain individuals (none of whom were responsible for making the event thread)

I totally understand the rule, though, as you don't want the boards littered with diff lists. In the end, your choice. Just giving a scenario of why multiple people on here might want to put their own list up for people to know...

Why should only one promoter be allowed to promote an event on TA when there are multiple groups involved? Why can't DJ's help promote via their personal lists? What is the point of making these rules in the first place?

Placing these kind of restrictions helps the crew/individual who first posts the party thread, but hurts the average user by restricting their available choices. Posting multiple lists has NEVER been a problem in any thread I've ever seen, so I don't know why it suddenly needs to be forbidden.

I like the addition of a separate event listings subforum, but I don't like all of these other rules which are being put upon everyone for no apparent reason. Do you think this is going to bring more readers here? Did it work for the Toronto forum? I'm genuinely curious.

I realize this is your forum so you can do whatever you want, and also that I'm going to keep coming back no matter what as long as there is interesting discussion and good information to be found here. With that said, we went from having basically 0 moderation or control for years (which worked fine) to having our own mod and a bunch of unnecessary restrictions on how events can be promoted. Bas seems to understand the character of this board pretty well - wouldn't it make more sense to just let him decide what is and isn't appropriate and not interfere unless anyone complains?

If it ain't broke...

Swamper here is another scenario, I'm not a promoter or work with any of the clubs. I'm just a HUGE fan and when I find out that a DJ is coming, I Start my own topic.. I have nothing to do with GUEST List or the event, so with your new set up, us the NON Promoters, the regular trance fanatic is out of luck and can't post events??

Example: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...7&forumid=60&s=

I could potentially just create a regular event thread, I guess, but this would cause for two threads to exists. So in that case it makes it hard for me to decide in which thread to express of how excited I am about the event??

Puts us the regular TA's at a disadvantage. I also don't want to step on any promoters toes..

I feel that we are walking on egg shells with all these restrictions..
Swamper
omg relax peeps! Happy Thanksgiving! lol

It's late here so I'll respond in more detail to the concerns raised tomorrow but I wanted to say a bit before I wake up to a whole bunch of similar replies.

You guys are getting too riled up over this. As I hope you'd have seen with this thread - all of the suggestions have been noted and things were changed accordingly to fit within the (unique) preferences for this section of TA.

That said, we'll work on things to get it to where everyone thinks it works best.

Before I go to bed though, I just wanted to mention that there are no restrictions on who posts an event - ANYONE can post an event... even if you aren't affiliated with the event or don't have a flyer or anything... If someone who is affiliated with the event later wants to take ownership of the thread then they can PM me or bas and we can take care of it from there (to quickly answer trancelover24 - there will never be 2 threads for the same event!)

Just know that it's worked for over 6000+ events in Toronto but that may also be attributed to the close proximity of all our events and the 'stepping on toes' behaviour of some promoters over others which led to those rules in the first place. If Cali+area promoters don't need such restrictions then I'll lift those in here.

I'll post more about this later today....

Swamper, while there's def some form of "competition" between all the promoters, in the end just about all are at least publicly respectful of the other promoters that post on TA. And most are respectful when they interact with each other in person.

And when one promoter seems to be stepping on the toes of others on here, people quickly lash out at whoever is doing it and it stops right away. :)

There's a reason why the WC board has needed very little modding all these years. :tongue3
