So I was thinking the other day, do you think people will remember Electronic music classics years and years from now, ie tracks that defined genres and stood their test of time say for 5-6 years......Will they last for another 10, 20...30 years like the same classics of alternative and rock music?

The field of classics thins out as you get further and further away from the time when they were composed. People will remember some "classic" producers, but other slightly less famous ones will fade away. Or they'll remember only the most popular tracks of a "classic" producer, rather than others that were just as good but a little less popular. I don't think everything will be entirely forgotten, but lots of stuff will.

Discogs and other music databases will allow people to find rare classics for many many years

With the age of the internet, every track will be available at the click of a button so they will always be around. I'll certain be busting out some trance, house and prog when I'm 80. Does anyone find that rather hilarious when picturing all of us in out old age with all this loud music? :haha:

With the stream of bland and completely unmemorable tunes that are produced and released these days, I don't think that real classics (mostly ones from the 90's) are endangered.

I seriously doubt Orbital and Leftfield will be forgotten any time soon. You can still walk into any high street music shop and buy their albums.

Probably. A tune in the TOP 10 is less likely to be forgotten than an underground EDM track, no matter how popular it is among us. I'd expect my kids to know about Michael Jackson, but I don't think they'll ever hear of Orbital and Leftfield... though I think there's a slim chance they'll probably get to know the Prodigy, the Chemical Brothers, and Chris Liberator.
