It's still a struggle for all women?
It's still a struggle for all black people?
Bull. Absolute and utter bull. Get off your victim bandwagon, it's not doing you any favours. |

you have no ing clue what you are talking about. you might as well be trying to explain to a black person what it's like to be black. it is a struggle every day in this world still for women. just like it is for blacks no matter how long ago THAT was. you guys are still constantly trying to remind us that we're dumber, weaker, and NOT equal to men whether it's by a joke, or a sarcastic comment, or for real by just straight up being a chauvanist pig in the locker room with your buddies lol
at least admit that you really don't know what it's like to be a female in a very male dominated world. don't dismiss it like it's nothing or nonexistant. you're dead wrong. |
whoa down there slylee! gee, so easy to anger despite my politeness. i take issue with you saying i dont know what im talking about, i can PM you a copy of my dissertation if you really want. i don't know too many boys that are as well-versed in the subject as moi.
that said, i didn't say that inequities don't or haven't existed. i didn't say that as a woman you haven't been subjected to the paternalistic nature of modern society.
what i said was you can't seriously be telling me you've personally fought for equal rights. and i know this because you weren't born when the war was fought. being a woman every day doesn't count.
i agree with you (and disagree with fledz) that inequities and the gender divide continue. of course, that gender divide doesn't just work against women, but i do agree that often they get the short end of the stick.
however, i DO take exception to any generation X or beyond female claiming THEY have been part of the fight for gender equality. the achievements since the Second Wave have been rather minor in comparison to what came before, which is why i question your original comment "until you have to fight for equal rights the way we did" because you didn't fight for anything.
believe it or not, im quite the feminist ;) |

| no worries. let's go and protest the right for women to have beards! |

i know i haven't literally "faught for equal rights", but i'm just trying to explain that it's still a fight every day...just in a different sense of the word. a "struggle".
and you know i don't fully blame men for this at all. i also blame stupid whore strippers and prostitutes and gold digging wives who bring the entire female population 10 steps BACKWARDS after everything we've faught for. |

But I don't disagree that there is a gender divide :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:
What I disagree is the victim attitude that some people jump straight into as if that's going to do them any favours. It won't. |

I can agree with this, but...
Do you personally even want to do anything that would have been impossible or very difficult for you to do before the second ('50 - '60s) wave of feminism came about? I mean, you pretty much live off of your boyfriend's salary, no? |

and that's an excellent tangential point. traditional feminism, the stuff most often wanked on about by people like us, is such a white, middle-class brand of feminism that its really quite difficult to extend that understanding and apply it to the experiences of black women, whether in the US (or other western countries) or elsewhere.
white women, in western nations, have had it the best in the last 100 years or so. a little bit of context doesn't go astray imo.
i think men take for granted that historically we have owned and run everything, which to my mind has influenced the evolution of public society. that's a no brainer.
how much is still residual in an age of (attempted) legislative equality is up for debate. how much difference it would've made in the shaping of the family or the public sphere is also another debate.
sexist jokes, especially when combining race or rape, are still the funniest jokes going round though. and its because men are funnier than women. if women were as funny as men, there'd be more good jokes about men.
that's not our fault. blame yourselves sisters, blame yourselves. |

yeah, sorry. i completely missed the "all" in your post.
quite clearly, it isn't a struggle for "all" anyone anymore. and i think other divides, like rich and poor, are a far more important area of concern than the execs who hire pretty secretaries.
women are the baby carriers. that was never going to work to their advantage in terms of the distribution of power.
unlucky! |

Not to jump down your throat like the rest of them, but if that were the case, why are actual Africans not having the same issues once migrating to the US? Chimera is a great example. There were also 2 Nigerian ladies in LA that were on the train that crashed last year. Both were quite educated. How is it that not being a black person, makes you wholly unqualified to make the call? Yes, there are things, such as profiling, etc that we are unable to fully understand. But telling blacks and Mexicans and the female gender to get off the victim mentality, is not unfounded. |
