With the age of the internet, every track will be available at the click of a button so they will always be around. I'll certain be busting out some trance, house and prog when I'm 80. Does anyone find that rather hilarious when picturing all of us in out old age with all this loud music? :haha: |
I have to say I find this image rather funny as well, though I'm not sure why exactly. I mean, you have plenty of people who are really getting up there still listening to whatever was popular in their teens and early twenties, Elvis or the Beatles or whatever.
Anyway, do you guys think your speakers will still be pumping out trance, dnb, prog, tech house, deep house, dub techno, or whatever your favorite dance genres happen to be when you're in your 60s? If not, what do you think you might be listening to?
Obviously none of us can actually know this, this thread is just to speculate for fun. :) |

| hard to say; hopefully. however, some of the music i listen to relates to dancing, so if i lose my will to dance/wanting people to dance, some of it will go away. |

| I'll almost certainly be still listening to the tracks of my youth. As you say, almost everyone listens to those. It's more a case of whether I'll still be keeping up with the scene. Or if the scene will still exist. |

Yeah sure, why not. I have already largely grown-out of EDM though and im 28 though (lol) but i still listen to a lot of electronic music (but not strictly EDM). Ok a bit of deep techno, house, prog and trance stuff from time to time but very picky and difficult on those genres. I think i ended-up disliking about 70% of EDM i used to like don't know why so im not sure if in 40 years time i'll listen to the same electronic stuff i listen to now. I can only say that i always liked electronic sounds and electronic music so i don't see it ever dying. I recently bought some really nice electronic albums, especially the new album by the IDM project Wisp was amazing. very organic, analogue and raw. Also the new ambient-post-rock album by Port-Royal was excellent as well. By the way here is some Wisp...
Wisp- "Picatrix"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7a8wnoAOYw
Wisp - "Hexenringe" (ignore katabatic its the title of another tune)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqGAhoQjLBk
Wisp - "The Fire Above"

lol excuse for spamming the thread :p |

| As my parents are listening to their favourite music from back in the days, I think I'll do so, too. May be I'll even DJ then still. :D |

<--- 40, and still DJing as much as I did when I was 14 (if not more).
Asked my wife if she'd be bothered if I'm still spinning when I'm 60. Reply was, "Bothered? I kind of expect it..."
To me, the 4/4 stuff I play and listen to is like good Jazz - it never really gets dated, and my ears hear something new each and every time. |

I hope so , I intend to set up a company called Biffer Raves which specialises in over 65 social music events , mainly EDM.
Our company will , for a competitive price , set up a full club scene in any old folks home turning almost any bingo ridden common room into a full dark and dirty club in which our star DJ's will turn old classics such as Sasha - Expander and Deadmau5 - Faxing Berlin.
All the nights will have full wheelchair and zimmeframe access ,will have a full bar serving what you would expect from the club scene of old , execpt with more antacid drugs this time.
We will offer a seated area with the finest throwovers.
Full security will be proved as will an assistance team to help in any unfortunate persons who should fall over during those reach for the lazers moments we all loved. And full recovery of false teeth for those that fall out in the event of chewing the jaw.
Dress code will include fine flowery dresses and tweed jackets with leather armpads , no catheters allowed.
DJ's to choose will include Tiesto , the first DJ to mix with his face.
Deadmau5 - Old house stalwart who due to modern technology can mix with his mind after being shot several times in the head by a mob.
Armin van buuren - The armless wonder still puts out great sets after the tragedy of putting the CD of ASOT 18593746393 on the pile of other ASOT CD's and it collapsing and nearly killing him.
Paul van dyk , our most requested DJ , first pioneer of laptop DJ'ing and now uses a calculator and a dildo to achieve sets of epic greatness.
Also as a complentary measure , free condoms and a wish of good luck will be offered. |

This. It's almost a rule that everyone likes to listen music that they listened in their youth even after decades. Probably much thanks to nostalgia but whatever. I'm pretty confident that I'm listening to electronic music when I'm much much older than now.
Also I'm probably not listening to new stuff anymore. It probably doesn't even matter anymore. |

Off-topic: that sounds amazing.
On-topic: maybe. I don't listen to much EDM anymore, but I keep getting back to some quality stuff or stuff from when I was younger. I stopped staying up to date altogether. |
