I'm still sure your grandparents couldn't really relate to deep melodic techno or prog house. I'm sure you would make everyone happier if you just stuck to a regular ass wedding DJ, or at least a DJ who plays music suitable for all crowds.

I was at a huge wedding where a psychedelic rock band played & lots of people were smoking dope, but that stuff didn't really get going until later on. after the tightwads took off. The evening started with the typical speeches, traditional dances, etc. I left at 6AM and people were still drinking beer, sitting around in the hot tub, being freaks - you should enjoy your wedding!! Go for it.

As special as EDM is, you should really take into account the impact it will have on both extended families. Just play it safe with some of that FREEE BIRRDDDDDD

Anyway, Trance is what brought my beloved one and me together like 5 years ago. Since then I went more into Goa/Psy while she found Breaks and Techno, but still both os us love the tunes from back then. :D A party like that is most likely to come, though probably not on the same day as the wedding. Mostly because it'll be in April or May. So I guess a party in the summer would be fun, open air if anyhow possible, and everybody who wants would be invited. :) To start in the afternoon with bbq would be cool...
she even got her mom to like Trance... :D

I went to a friend's wedding, and him and his wife made their entrance to Xpander... and later in the night, after the usual Billy Idol/Billy Joel/Bon Jovi type stuff, the DJ played a bunch of EDM - Eric Prydz vs Pink Floyd-Proper Education, Dogzilla-Without You, Robert Miles-Children, Bedrock-Heaven Scent, Ferry Corsten-Fire. I'd love to have some EDM played whenever I do eventually get married.

I got engaged when I was 19. Biggest mistake of my life, thank god I turned into a total head and got dumped. She even "lost" the 1000$ engagement ring, LOL! Shows how important our love was.

I can hardly imagine any better start into a future life with my beloved one than partying together with her and an euphoric crowd! Just think of the atmosphere almost bursting of positive energy. :D There certainly is no better present than this energy...

I've thought of this scenario many times. I seem to think that the proper way to do it would be have a pre party full on rave-stylie with just all your closest friends and family who know what they're getting into. I'd much rather have an awesome night of dancing with everyone for my stag than going to some strippers. Perhaps the girls should have a BBQ together, and he Guys somewhere seperate and then later in the night everyone winds up together for the edm party. And then by that time you'll have no problem making the wedding dance the standard family time that it should be.
Also, I've always imagined walking into or out of the wedding to "(Love you til the) Sky Fals Down" by Oceanlab. It still gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it.

I don't see how listening to dance music means you need to "grow up".
It sounds like you guys are embarrassed about the music you listen to, or have some kind of issue with people outside your clubbing buddies knowing you listen to dance music. And like SuspicionVandit said, it doesn't mean all out rave, that would be absurd.

I've been to one where some was played and the DJ was a local who plays house, that being said he still played the regular wedding stuff. He played more of that than anything else.
It has nothing to do with being embarassed about the music you listen to, but more that a wedding is a party to celebrate with your friends and family. Yes the bride and groom are the ones being celebrated, but a good wedding aims to please your guests as well.
The first dance is not for house music. Everyone waits for that moment, and wants to share in it. It is not the time or place for fist pumping and crab walking.
Edm is perfectly fine imo when the crowd thins out and it is a bit later. Deep House (really deep think stuff like Atjazz) is perfect during dinner and before the speeches.
