What about those people that reuptake serotonin faster than normal. They lose their good feeling quick and feel like when they do not have exercise. Have you ever laid around your house all day not wanting to do anything? Or laid in bed not wanting to get up? Try doing laundry or cleaning dishes at that point. That is what it feels like for a depressed person to try to do normal everyday things that need to do to live a semi-healthy life.
Since it is multi-faceted, most depression is misdiagnosed. that is why psychologists do not know wtf depression is.
, and I have never even studied depression :wtf: |
Yes but Jennypie has...and remember, she's 30 and still working on that 4 year degree. Everyone is a moron except her :thepirate |

Haha, truth! This is why Canada's health care model is so good. I mean, it's not perfect...but at least it's focused on primary prevention. :) |

Take away all their western comforts and make em work sixteen hours a day to obtain just enough food and water to survive.
After about a year of that, you can let them re-integrate into society. If they show any more signs of depression, repeat for double the previous duration. Continue until they are cured. |

is it that they reuptake serotonin faster than normal, or that their serotonin receptors are severely damaged from abusing drugs like mdma, or that their serotonin levels are lower as a result of lifestyle factors? either of the three possibilities or a combination of them would lead to the same result, but i have to believe that the human population didn't suddenly experience a genetic explosion of naturally depressed people.
much of this explosion of diagnosis, i believe, is the result of increasingly sedentary lifestyle, increasing social isolation, increasing prevalence of recreational drug culture, increasingly poor diet based on processed foods, high sodium, sugar and saturated fats, and the increasing influence and dependency upon pharmaceuticals in society. every one of these things have been on a steady upward trend and every one of these things is a contributor to emotional imbalance. while i can't prove a direct link between these things and the unusually high instances of depression in our society, one can reasonably infer its existence.
regardless, any psychiatrist worth his salt will tell you antidepressants are supposed to be used as a temporary treatment and that long term use results in a rebound effect, whereby the drug loses its intended effect and the patient crashes into a deeper depressive state. personally, i don't consider horrible side effects like that a good treatment for anything. |

i agree with you here. my husband and i both took anti-depressants for a year to deal with depression, after a year we both decided to get off them and see if we were ok with out it, and, we were. So i can't imagine all the people that still take them and could have stopped long ago. BTW i took them for post-partum depression, not because i'm some fat, lazy who has no friends and can't seem to get their together. |
