Your kid turns out to be (heavily) retarded..

I was having a discussion the other day: what if you got a baby and he turned out to be a retard. One that has absolutely 0,0 contribution to society (not the ones that just act a bit silly, but the ones who really can't do on their own. Sorry, can't find the right term). One that only costs money (both you and the government), and a hell lot of your time and energy. It means that your life would purely consist of taking care of him/her. Would you consider euthanasia (given that it would be legal)? I know the whole story about being a parent, that you love your kid unconditionally. It's easy for me to say, because I'm far from having my own kid (I don't even really like kids (mostly babies though)), but still.

I'm wondering this because I was spectator at a a sports event a while back and there was this retarded person who was constantly making this loud yelping noise, really annoying, besides just hanging there in his wheelchair. His mom (I guess) had to watch and comfort him the whole time. Someone like him doesn't contribute anything to society. If I would have an accident tomorrow, making me a vegetable, I'd like my parents to have me put to sleep. I can't do , and their life is ruined.

I know this may sound heartless, but this really is the way I think about it. I also want to add that I wasn't able to express myself the way I wanted too. But you got the point.

If you are talking real retard (trisomy and such), the master plan has thought of this.

If you are just talking stupid, my kid would get a dose of real life so fast that his face would hurt for a month.

I would have the amniotic fluid tested in the early stages of labour and avoid it altogether.

It's easy to say something like this looking at other people..but I have a feeling if it was your child that you raised from a newborn, you would never consider it. Killing others..no way. Assisted suicide or voluntary euthanasia should be legal however.

Probably this.

As selfish as this sounds, I guess, I do not want a tardkid.

It sucked the other day I was waiting for my supplements to be delivered. I heard a truck driving by slowly so I ran outside just to find out it was only the small bus picking up the retard kid down the street. I was pissed.

It's just better all around on so many levels. I mean not only is it a strain on the parents, but I mean...the parents can't take care of the kid forever, and once they get turned over to social services or whatever, well that's a huge burden on the health care system as well.

Ask Arcadias mom?

I too am in favor of voluntary euthanasia. But in the case of you having to judge what's best for your own kid, I'd say killing others (i.e. your own kid) is acceptable. Especially if he lacks the mental ability to contest it.

Sure, that's a possibility too, but now you're just avoiding the ethical issue here ;)

What is this master plan you speak of?

I don't know. I'd probably raise him because a life is a life after all... but this is no easy question.

What ethical issue? The ethics of the issue are dependent upon the values of the people involved. For me, there there wouldn't be any kind of dilemma. And since it is entirely legal to terminate a pregnancy if you know there is a detrimental defect, it supports the decision I would make.

read mein kempf.:p

With testing for this kind of thing getting better i would terminate (well convince her to) the pregnancy. I'm not a right to life fag. What kind of life would you be giving the kid anyway, if all he did was put shoes in his mouth?

To me, it is not a living thing until it s on you and costs money.
