| Indeed. I agree completely, and that's why I used the words "it depends" in every post. I think the only point I'm really trying to make is that if I HAD to do something like that/make that choice, I would find it within myself to be able to do so. |

. But in situations like david.michael's for example, I could never bring myself to do what's logical. |
I should probably specify that she is fairly functioning, all things considered. She probably won't ever be able to live independently, but she isn't the type of special needs child that sits around and drools on herself every day. It's almost like she's a normal kid, but 2 or 3 years old instead of 7.
Not that it really matters, just didn't want to make the situation into being something that it's not. |

| Oh, I didn't assume as such. Each and every person has their varying degrees of platitudes, whether they are capable of acknowledging this or not. It truly matters little in the end. |

Our family friends had a daughter a few months after i was born, sadly she was born with...well i dont know what was her condition but she wasnt right from day 1. She died a couple of years back but in her 20 or so years of life she was just a human shell, completely incapable of any mental or physically activity. I dont think she recognised her own parents, her days consisted of sitting in a chair and drooling all over herself. Up until the very last day of her life her parents had to take care of everything for her, feed, her, bather her, change her diapers, carry her around everywhere as her muscles werent strong enough to allow her to crawl...even if she had the mental capacity to do that. For over 20 years she was a burden on the family with no chance of getting better, and even though the family was sad when she died everybody could see even at the funeral that they were also relieved because a great burden was taken off their shoulders.
In a case like this i would strongly advocate for abortion. This wasnt like she was physically retarded but still had mental abilities...for all intends and purposes she was born dead, it only took her body some 20 odd years to figure it out. |
