So how was everyone's night/morning? How was Giant's party @ the Bonaventure and what about TAO?

What other parties did you attend? Let's hear it!

Well I don't normally post here but what the hell. I went to Club Space in Miami to see Martin Buttrich and Oscar G they both tore the house down! :eyespop:

My day started at 2pm. I showed up to the Hilton in Costa Mesa to do sound check. I walk in and find out my stage is set up in this underground garage away from everything else. The garage was HUGE. Bigger than the main room. As I make room to the stage, I see there's no CDJ's or mixer set up, but the setup was dope. At this moment I begin to worry. The promoter showed up, and he said the sound company was supposed to call me to let me know I was supposed to provide the DJ set up. Lucky for me, I live 15 min from there, I go home, get my , and finished setting up by 5:30. It ed up my day.

GTG, when I come back, I'll finish the rest. It's WILD and it includes scanless girls, chick fights, lots of eye candy, and last minute set change.

I went to TAO for a couple of hours, and then headed off to the hollywood palladium for Hard NYE. I got there around 1.30 and it was sick. Boys Noize tore the house down.

Was at Tao. Both Markus were amazing. Digweed was good. Guetta was eeeeh.

The main VIP arena sucked at Tao this year. Line to get drinks = 30 minutes of shoving in a jam packed little tent. Plus, VIP area had -zero- view of front or even side of stage. You had to be a cabana guest to walk to the side of the front. WTF. Walking a packed floor just to see the front stage is cool and all but, grab a drink, drink it, walk to front, walk back -repeat- is not something I want to do. At 1AM the main VIP arena ran out of bottled water. Did they oversell VIP tickets or something?

The count down was nice, it was so packed in the main stage, literraly we were being squeezed from all sides. Markus closing was amazing. He played so many hard beats, was a very good set. Have tons of videos to upload.

Sounds like a typical Massive events, waitin so long for drinks/running out of beverages, overcrowded, etc. But Im sure Markus was worth it.

The Giant event was fantastic. The drink tickets were cool as beer was 5 bucks, the vodka sucked but oh well. It was nice to be with adults all night and dancin on carpet is helpin the body today.

A&B are always great, Cosmic Gate was good, a lot of popular songs, C.L was probably the best set. Although "As the rush comes" is overplayed, I relly enjoyed the remix he played. The crowd was into most the sets, and espically Christopher Lawrences. One absolute negative thing was the strobe light or whatever that flashing white bulbs were in front of the stage, very tough. The sound was extremely loud too, but the earplugs handled that. Very good way to start the new year :)

FIXED

Didn't go out to a party, more it came to me. just friends over, me and a mate DJ'd for maybe 6/7 hours straight, and passed out around 6:30am.

Quite an epic night for a "quiet one" and one of the better NYE's I've ever had. Feeling the pain today though..... :(

Happy New Year Everyone! :D

Giant Hotel NYE - The good, the bad and the ugly (in reverse order :) ):

The Ugly:

  • Subwoofers were punishingly loud up front, to the point where your bones were shaking! I like being up front most of the night, but moved back into the crowd a lot because of this. Good DJ's react to the enthusiasm of the crowd and make eye contact with the party people up front to build a great set, but I think it may have been hard to judge the crowd since people kept moving back away from the speakers a lot.

The Bad:

  • There was one small VIP bar outside the main room, enclosed by some dividers. Around 9:30, there was only ONE bartender for all the VIP guests! Aside from the wait, I felt really sorry for the guy, who was apologizing profusely to everyone about the wait. My next trip over, they added a second bar and bartender to the area, so the wait came down to maybe 15 mins or so

  • Laser box mostly blocked view of DJ's if you were up front

  • The NYE countdown almost seemed like an afterthought...I remember looking up and seeing 8,7,6... flashing on the video display and then A&B left while Cosmic Gate took over. Had I been talking with someone for more than 15 seconds, I would have missed it!

  • Trash all over in the restrooms, hey it's a massive, but they never ran out of soap or paper towels so someone must have paying some attention

The Good:

  • To me, the event seemed well organized this year. After reading horror stories about lines for the elevators in previous years, I was prepared for the worst...but at one point, I went from the Cataline room up to my 25th floor room and backin less than 15 mins! Never waited more than 2-3 minutes anywhere, including main VIP entry Catalina entry, and the elevators. The line for hotel registration was long, but that's just NYE anywhere since it's a very busy night

  • Not sure what kind of Vodka they had in GA, but VIP had 42 Below from New Zealand, top shelf vodka there! :)

  • The room never felt packed, easy to move around, friendly crowd, no pushing or shoving even up front

  • Ran into so many TA's everywhere I went! It felt like the celebration of the year, which I guess is the whole point...

  • Solid sets by Kristina and Above & Beyond, I liked Cosmic Gate's set a lot, and Christopher Lawrence surprised me and played some very strong tracks (though there was some cheese mixed in here & there). Above & Beyond went very hard toward the beginning of their set, which made me wonder how the rest of it would go, but was more Trance/Prog after that. Someone mentioned to me that they were playing a lot of new tracks this night.

  • Stunning visuals!

  • The Bonaventure staff were very friendly, went out of their way to be helpful and really seemed to be into the whole NYE thing. They made me feel welcome and glad to be there (flashback to Tiesto @ Shrine Auditorium where the crowd was treated like rodents being fumigated from a crack house!)

  • The hotel was even better! Amazing room with an awesome view (yeah, the last pic in my set was the view from my room), 2pm late checkout, and maybe the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in...only regret is that I had to leave, blah! :clown:

Interesting, i was talking to one of my customers about this party and he said he had a good time apparently. He also would agree that the eye candy was good.

Went to TAO.

The bad ->

The main VIP area was horrible:
The entrance for VIP at TAO went through the same area as the entrance to the main VIP area so the security was overwhelmed and it caused some delays getting in and out in the beginning of the night.
1 tent for drinks which made it a cluster f to get in and out with your drinks. The lines and the wait were kind of long. I don't know why they didn't have multiple smaller tents like the VIP area in the arena. That way with 2 lines you can get your drink and exit to the right or left with no problem.
Sound was weak and there was no partial side view like the VIP area in the arena. I think that's how they showed it on the map but I was hoping it would be more like the arena setup.
The porta potties were disgusting. All of them were overflowing :( In the trailer one it was bad because that thing would shake!

The arena floor was closed off at around 12? I went to check out Dubfire since I'm not into Guetta and when we got inside there was a lot of empty space on the floor but the security said the floor was closed?

The good->

Showed the security the VIP bracelet and he let us walk down the small escalator in the back of the VIP area in the arena. WOW. What a difference from the main VIP area. This is how I remember it being last year for Armin and the year before for Sasha and Digweed - SHORT lines for drinks. Only 1 or 2 people lines. I think it was due to the multiple smaller drink stations but also because it didn't seem like people knew how to get there? There was plenty of space by the side of the area stage as well. No lines for the bathroom either and the they weren't overflowing :)

The visuals in the main tent were pretty amazing IMO. I'm uploading my vids and I'll post a link later.

Digweed's and Markus's set were great and they were the main people I wanted to see.

So overall I had a great time. I've learned to accept the shortcomings and just make sure I get there early enough to not let the logistics spoil the night. I know they moved the main area outside due to the larger crowd but the arena setup for VIP was so much nicer this and past years. Hopefully they will try and make the outside main area better for future events.

Started the night off at Joseph's in Hollywood with friends from 11pm-3am and then went back to a hotel close by for some fun for afterhours until the main event opened...

DAY ONE @ EMPIRE... 7am to 4pm...

Epic morning and afternoon of great music! D'Morse and I went back to back on the decks for a couple hours and David Hopper, Ignacio Demaira, Brian Matrix, Von UKUF, Peran, and Steve Prior also delivered solid sets.

Then we went downtown to a private underground party where David Hopper spun an incredible set that was deep, chunky, and soulful.

Then back to Joseph's in Hollywood for Day One Point Five...

Hung out for an hour and then went home...

I am really tired. Still up. So excited about tomorrow night @ Circus that I can't sleep! :)

Because I got a feeling...
