Gui Boratto Joins The Mix Collection

Published: January 18th, 2010

2009 has been a great year for Gui Boratto. He released his second artist album, brilliantly remixed the likes of Moby, Simian Mobile Disco, Sam Taylor-Wood & The Pet Shop Boys and Bomb The Bass and created one of the years best Essential Mixes.

Boratto starts off 2010 with his first DJ mix for Renaissance. Gui’s diverse, melodic style is a natural fit with the compilation genre, which he perfectly presents across 2 discs, highlighting some of the scenes most exciting producers such as Tricky, Josh Wink, Martin Buttrich, Lusine, Jonh Tejada, Mathew Jonson, Christian Smith and many more. Dance fans will take further delight in the fact Gui’s also featured 8 of his own tracks and remixes; 4 of these are brand new productions, including an exciting co-production with Bomb The Bass called ‘The Infinites’ and a forthcoming Renaissance single, ‘Trills’.

Renaissance: The Mix Collection – Gui Boratto – is out 8th February 2010

The last few compilations done by DJs who have been famed through production and subsequently turned DJs, their compilations have been 0 for 5, outputting throwaway mixes. Tracklist/Programming looks wobbly from here, but if someone is going to flip the script maybe Gui Boratto will. If he dont, its pretty much a gimme that Producers who turn into DJs suck phallic at selecting. That said, hoping this is good, I could use a good mix comp right about now, cant wait to hear this.

his Addicted comp on Platipus was quite good, so I have high expectations for this.

listened to the mix several times now and especially cd1 is very good! the programming isnt the best, for example the first 3 songs blend nicely together but the more rock influenced "the infinites" is a bit off. most mixes are boring and safe, still the good tracks on there save it!

cd2 is a bit more standard and i'm not a huge fan of this disc!

would give cd1 a 4.5/5 and cd2 2.5/5

I'm quite liking the album aswell!
Have to agree that CD1 is much stronger. Tenshi's comments are definitely on par with my own :)
You can hear that Gui's a producer first and DJ second btw ;)
