The Restaurant Thread

This thread is to replace the one that magically disappeared. I really liked the thread and it was really helpful for visitors an locals alike. This is a very diverse city with great food all over, so no matter how long you've lived here, there's always a place that you missed somehow, so let's use this thread for our advantage :)

When you review a restaurant, please include the address, phone number and website (if they have one). Also please let us know what payment methods they take.

I'll link them to this first post by area for easy reference.

Go here often, mostly late night for drinking but had their food not so long ago.
They have pretty much what every Spanish tapas bar has on the menu: croquetas (potato fritters with either ham, cheese, mushrooms or cod) cutting boards with Serrano ham, Idiazabal, and Manchego cheese, mussels, shrimp, etc etc etc. The food is nothing extraordinary, but it's done properly. The mussels in white wine are great to have while having drinks. The paella is decent.
On to the drinks. Their sangria is some of the best I've had in NYC, as are the mojitos. They also have Mamajuana, which is rum that has been left to sit with wormwood and spices for a few days; considered to be a Dominican aphrodisiac, goes down smooth and f*cks you up. They also do the typical mexican sangritas, very spicy tomato juice chasers to have after a shot of tequila. If you're having sangritas, I'd recommend you to bring a roll of tums, they cause some damage. Julio (one of the owners) is most nights behind the bar, he's very entertaining with some very dirty jokes, and he's easy on the eyes.
I can't say much about the service, since they are all my friends and I'm biased... They do get slammed and they can be a bit slow.

I would recommend this place for groups no bigger than 4, the place is tiny and loud, and not ideal for conversation, would recommend it more for drinks than food. They have live music (cuban salsa, flamenco, latin jazz, etc) every night and late at night they move the tables for people to dance.

I know you did, the thread disappeared and Z has been looking for it since yesterday. That thread had sooooo much information too :( You know I really liked your thread, just trying to rebuild if it can't be found :)

Edit: I just went through my posts and there are no posts from the restaurant review thread. It must have been swallowed by the TA black hole :conf:

It's gone! I checked the Deleted Threads recycling bin and it doesnt look like I can retreive it. I was going to try to copy some useful individual posts with the permission of the user at the very least but no luck :(

I would've recommended you to do a Jean Georges restaurant for Restaurant Week, you get more bang for your buck.

I have a LOT of places to review, but I'll start with a place to AVOID!

Calcutta Cuisine of India
6th St bet 1st and 2nd aves

I ordered delivery from this neighbourhood place because I was hungry and I'm still shopping around for the best indian in my 'hood. When I called to order, the music was so LOUD at the restaurant I couldn't hear the guy that answered the phone, when I said I couldn't hear him, he started yelling on the phone. Ordered the lamb vindaloo and a mango lassi, the food came about 30 minutes later. I get SEVEN containers (for a lamb vindaloo? how many different sauces can you have??) in the bag with no napkins or silverware (which I needed).
The lamb vindaloo was so spicy, it was inedible. I like spicy, I eat spicy foods very often, but this was ridiculous. I ate it anyway because I just spent $16 on this garbage and I was hungry. Not even the mango lassi can calm the burning in my stomach now :nervous: I'm so f*cking pissed I posted a review on menupages AND yelp.
Oh well, I guess I'll just sh*t fire later :wtf:
