We actually had to do that in order to quit smoking. We cut our daily drinking habits basically to zilch because we used to end the day with sitting outside and having a glass of wine/beer and smoke and bull about the day.

We also had to quit hanging out with our smoking friends for a few weeks (they all understood and respected our need to be away from temptation). Our first vacation without cigarettes was weird. About two months into quitting smoking we went on vacation with a couple that smokes 1.5 packs a day EACH... that was the tough part. But we made it through - even with nights of heavy drinking and temptation.

To be honest, I just had to look up when we quit smoking because I quit paying attention a while ago. We quit July 25th. I've never felt better.

//edit

PS - things begin to taste AMAZING after a few weeks of quitting smoking... you'd never believe how much smoking coated your taste buds!

congrats :)

good work on the 169 hours thing :stongue:

work's always the hardest for me though, harder than when drinking etc I reckon... when drinking it's a habit, when working it's a virtual necessity.. :nervous:

My bf's uncle was just diagnosed with lung cancer, so his mom quit smoking.

And I won't pick it back up this time.

It's been 5 days so far, and even easier than last time, woo! I guess it helps that I've quit before, and when I started again was just an occasional smoker.

No cravings really. The real test, as always, will be when I drink...but I think I'll be fine. :)

Anybody else quit or thinking about quitting? Let this thread continue as a roll call/support thread.

I QUIT ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO. I BROKE DOWN AND HAD A PACK ABOUT 2 MONTHS IN WHEN I GOT DRUNK. I STILL HAVENT SMOKED AT ALL IN A GOOD 5 MONTHS.

IF I CAN DO IT YOU CAN DO IT WE ARE IN THIS TO WIN THIS, TRUST YOURSELF, BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT TRUST YOUR COWORKERS AND MYSPACE.

Thanks for the mental imagery. I'm seeing horribly stained tighty-whities with the Raistlin 'brand'.

Very disturbing.
