Well, as I understand it, it saves loops and cue points, almost endlessly, so if you're going around playing on them with the same music all the time you end up with all your stuff saved! Given that for Sasha beatmatching probably takes all of 5 seconds, and the looping is now seamless on them, I'm sure it really isn't that much different than using ableton, at least in terms of mixing. Plus as he said in the interview he's doing a lot more edits before hand instead of on the fly (which is probably the better way to do it).
It seems that after his Maven broke down and he started to use the new CDJs he just decided to stick with them for a bit. |
When he first got on we could've sworn there was a DJM2000 between the CDJs. He was having a pretty rough time mixing, so even though the CDJ2000s have awesome capabilities, he either wasn't taking advantage or something was ed up in the booth (or he was ed up lol). At one point he was kinda flipping out for like 30 min and they were going back and forth talking to sound guys. It seemed like they might have switched to the 800 then... not sure
Anyhow, we enjoyed the night. I liked a lot of the tunes he was dropping (proggy, melodic, and super deep at times), very reminiscent of his set on the yacht party last WMC with Nick Warren. One of the best 4 hours of music I'd ever heard.
Almost didn't go on Sat but was glad I did. Def packed like a mofo though, especially outside. Good times, would love to see a tracklist.
and p.s. clovee, the holden remix was unreal. trust, i think you would've liked it. You know we both feel the same way about the '93 Returning Mix, and this thing was definitely the best mix I've heard since. Don't hate, embrace it Clovee :) |

I should have it tomorrow =) There was a moment that I felt was as epic as that picture someone took of that dude lighting Sasha's cigarette.... and well up on the balcony Julia was explaining to me what washers were >.< (I had no clue) then it happened and we both shut up....I told my friends that I was with how awesome it looked when he did that and he said he missed it, but when he went through the videos he caught the moment, and yeah I'll post it asap =) I gotta say my first Avalon experience was amazing and I wouldn't have it any other way minus my ex showing up and saying ed up things to me =P |

Everyone ingoring my post?
Like I said before, he WAS using Ableton and he WAS using the Maven, along with the CDJs. I didn't see him use the Maven much towards the end before I left, but he constantly went back and forth between the CDJs and Ableton.
Edit: BTW, I don't know the tecnical details of Ableton of course, but he was selecting stuff and there were things in the grid, so not sure if they were actual tracks or just MIDI samples or whatnot. I think he just used the MIDI interface hookup with the CDJs to control Ableton with them, rather than the Maven.
(I guess sorta like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8a_sCzHKGyw , just not using the CDJ for effects) |
