how many cards do you have ?
In my mac, I have 2 video cards and my my soundcard which leaves 1 pcie. Is there even room to put enough UAD cards to use them without worrying about maxing them out ? |
i have a UAD PCI & PCIe. they're thin cards, shouldn't be an issue for you. My PC has 1 video card, 1 firewire expansion card & 2 UAD's. |

| what i'm saying is that with only room for 1 card, with the new cards with the most chips, how many Caimbridge EQs could you run. |

With a UAD 2 Quad, which would fit in your PCIe, you could run 120 instances of Cambridge EQ in stereo and 184 in Mono.

I had 4 uad-1's and all plugins a few months before UAD2 came out, sold 3 cards and license, held on to 1 card and reg key. i like the plugins and it's solid software, doesnt agree with FL very well though

That sucks....Have you tried or read up about the UAD 2 and FLS?
As you may or may not know, using multiple UAD cards actually uses a very slight bit of CPU resources (very variable on your mother board, slots available, etc) so using 4 cards of UAD1 was eating a little CPU.
There's never a better time than now to get into UAD 2's. There is a great deal on the Neve package (an additional $100 voucher for a total of $200 voucher + the Neve CS and Neve 33609 compressor which are $550 on their own) - You obviously know you get more plugs with it and even though they are cheap they're FAR from a push over.
EMT Plate 140 is coming soon, along with the Manley Passive EQ. Those are for the near future. All plate 140 purchasers from I believe February 1st will receive a free upgrade to the EMT Plate 140.
A lot of good and neat things going on at UAD. It's why I took the time to jump in. You've got my MSN. Message me if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. I've been reading up a TON on UAD and its newest software release version. |

| What UAD plugin would you guys says is comparable or better than PSP Vintage Warmer. How is the UAD SPL Transient Designer shaping abilities? Been looking at getting me a UAD card, definately next on the list alongside a few other studio essentials, like a proper outboard stereo bus compressor. |

Wish I could answer this but I can't. UAD doesn't have a dedicated "analog warmer" - Reason being is they're trick of the trade is emulation of hardware, period. They don't appear to be interested in recreating tube saturations or tape overload machines (if those existed)
As far as character and warmth go, as a guess I would say the FATSO blows it away. The guy who used to do all my mastering actually had a physical pair (yes, two!) of the distressors and his masters were SO good. (Very, VERY distinct sound most notably from the frequency separation)
Wouldn't surprise me though if you overloaded one of the compressors that you could get what you get out of VM2. Afterall, it IS a limiter. The 1176LN is very colorful as is the pultec. Just over the input as much as you can and listen. The great thing about UAD is you can use their plugs for 14 days fully functional before deciding to buy and it takes about 10 seconds to get the plug in. I'm taking it slow at first. Not even going to do any 14 day demos until I am comfortable with what I got. And back to your subject I've heard the Pultec EQ (which comes free with the card) adds a great amount of color to the mix. Some people just put it in their tracks/busses/masters without doing any EQing simply for the color it adds. |

If anybody wants A/B samples post a sample and I'll run it through what I have so you can get an idea of what the UAD 2 Neve sounds like...I have the following plugs....
Neve 88RS Channel Strip
Neve 33609 Compressor
UAD 1176SE
RealVerb-Pro
Pultec EQ
UAD CS-1 (UAD designed channel strip. Has snappy compression) |

| Loving this thing so far.....the Neve 33609 is nuts. I'm pist about the presets not loading in Ableton, but whatever. I'll just have to make my own templates. (time consuming).....Demo'ing the FATSO right now and definately going to buy it......all I can say is wow. I'd like to see another company try and emulate those distressors :haha: |
