I was at that party! It was in 1999 though, unless I went to the same party in the better living centre a year later.
It was so awesome not knowing where the raves were being held. Having to call a hotline the night of a rave to find out where you were going to party was awesome... you can't organize that kind of anymore.
Another great one was Liquid Adrenaline at Shock nightclub in 2000... that was the night i got busted from my parents for raving
lol

A couple of friends and I checked this out. Yeah, that was the date.

After this, it was pretty much all warehouse parties in Cambridge until Dose Connected in '98.
**Edit: Found the flyer for DC 98 too!

Oh what I wouldn't do for a time machine.

Its amazing how many of those Dj's from those flyers are still kicking it today :D

Same result though... great place...

I'll never forget the first time I walked into the zone. The place was going off. Every inch of the place was debauchery.

2005 zone was the pinnacle!

haha, bad boy bill was a frequent DJ at those better living center raves. But you could be right, I'm not sure if it was 99' or 98', all I remember was 10,000 people in the venue and it still not being full.

And yeah, not knowing where those parties were, following the oddest and most obscure signs in weird parts of town to get to the party was awesome.

But there are still parties like that these days, and every once in a while, I can still manage to find a nice 'little less than legal' party still serving booze in some warehouse after the last call. :)

What's funny about this is that I was going to say "Chemy's 4th birthday, 1978"

what I find funny is that the younger people all seem to start out with some big name international DJ and the older people it seems its just some party.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Also the younger people all seem to start out at a club whereas we old folks started in an abandoned factory or forest.

They're still there. Not merely as many, but there are still raves that go on. One of the old TAs I know still raves and every once in awhile I'll get a message from her telling me about a rave that's going on (b/c I've told her I've always wanted to go one of the underground parties in Toronto). TOTA is likely not the place that you'd find info on them though, as they're still underground.

I still find it odd that so many of the younger people list Big Name International DJs as their first experience.....regardless of whether the parties are in forests or clubs it just seems strange to me that the first parties are those and not some less known DJs.

I cant even answer this question because I dont know who was playing! Sometime in 2000-2001 (winter) at the Guv. I know Mark Oliver opened for someone but I had no idea who any DJ's were for like at least 6 months into my party-life...:haha: :nervous:

All I know is that after one time at the Guv I was in Toronto club-land almost every weekend after that!

:D :D

Yeah I agree...

Perhaps it is because some big names are appearing on radios/tv so younger people get exposed to specific DJ names... so when they see a party with that name they want to go.

Also perhaps its because the people brining them into the scene. They pick a big name hoping the new comer will recognize the name or a song or two. Or knowing the big names often bring big energy and good vibes.. hoping for the new comer to have the best time possible...

We also dont have many BIG parties with locals anymore. Residency nights at guv are getting fewer and fewer. Even footwork has very few local nights now...
