What do people dislike about hipsters? Most of the comments are about they way they look. Typically people cite skinny jeans, scarves, skinny bodies, outrageous fashion statements, etc. All things that macho men are terribly afraid of for fear of compromising their masculinity.

Presuming you're a hipster, bringing forward retarded arguments like this to justify ugly , stupid trendfollowing and a lack of taste are a pretty good reason to hate them. :p

1. your presumption is incorrect. i'm just a weirdo with an open mind.

2. care to elaborate on what's wrong with the argument?

3. taste is subjective, and totally influenced by cultural upbringing.

Yeah, there is that, but I have also seen lots of comments about ideology and activism and music, for example. I don't think those are connected to homophobia in any way, apart from a few cases of metal heads slipping into middle age and lamenting the wussy new youth.

come on man. i just went through the whole thread and there is nothing except criticism of fashion. hipsters dont have an ideology, and that's maybe the only criticism i could make, but then I would criticize individuals for being shallow and caring more about fashion than substance. (and that's definitely not what people have done in this thread) but to judge people en masse simply because of what they are wear is pure bigotry.

here's a smattering from this thread:

"they are like a plague ... No one wants to look at your skinny little legs in skin tight pants and I'm not impressed by your douche bag glasses and stupid hipster hats. "

"The funny thing is that they actually think they're cool or are making some sort of statement. I just can't get over how unflattering and revolting the tight pants are. It's like man's answer to fat women's bare mid drift muffin top."

"I live in a land free of hipsters. And metrosexuals, for that matter. I think I saw some of them in London though. They're fun to look at."

"I don't get what's so hipster about dressing up like a hipster anymore. They're just newfags, really."

"Is it hipsters who have those stupid ear plug things? If so, I hate them. They look so ing stupid!"

Sure, in this thread, but I think that's natural enough since the opening post was a complaint about fashion. There have been plenty of other anti-hipster threads, though.

Not necessarily an ideology they really have, but one they are perceived to have: a blend of environmentalism, naive political idealism and liberalism, and general "anti-consumerist" or "anti-mainstream" tendencies. Of course actual "hipsters" may or may not fit this ideological stereotype, but this is always the case when you try to describe the politics of a group that is not based explicitly around politics.

that's surely not limited to 'hipsters', and has even less to do with what they wear.

Sure, but I think it is part of the animosity, at least in some articles I have read.

So what, is everyone supposed to look like everyone else, just to not look like a "douchebag hipster"?

I don't hate hipsters because I hate homosexuals. I hate hipsters because they are elitist pricks. It's more about my hatred towards the contradictory/assholish nature of bohemians.

"WAHH QQ!! I hate my sub-urban mid-western lifestyle. It's so fake! I'm going to go live with minorities where it's totally real!!"--too bad you'll drive up the prices in that neighborhood, son.

"Momma says i'm unique! Look, at colorful short shorts!!!"--you look like every douchebag who looks like you!

"I'm all for tolerence and acceptance. BTW I hate Republicans, Christians, people who eat meat, you know, mainstream stuff!"

"I like Nietzsche and Foucault. Post-Modernism, YEAH!!!!"

Yeah, I'm not a fan of obfuse language, and unclear writing, with an unclear message. People spent cash getting PHDs revolving around that BS that it seems like anyone and their momma can do.

They are no different from the people they do not like. Instead of a mercedes benz to buy to show off, they drive hybrids to show off to to keep up with the jones' because that's their neighborhood norms, among other things. Same BS different name.

i could go on and on about these dbags.

hippies, punks, etc, are no different from hipsters. they just do things to hang out imo.

I don't get why people hate skinnys. I don't wear them, but I know people who do, and they say it's more about comfort than anything else.

Who the cares.

I just wonder if there's any gals out there that actually find guys with stick legs sexy. Makes me realize I grew up in the wrong generation, where baggy pants were all the rage.:(

So far, I have had no reason to hate hipsters. A lot of them work in the service industry and usually are nice to me. They throw cheap parties. A lot of them ride bikes, which makes for less cars. A lot of them do volunteer work even though they are starving for lack of a paying job.

*I've never been fired by a hipster, nor verbally/sexually attacked by one.

*My non-hipster employers are underpaying me.

*I've been mugged, but not by a hipster.

*The people who have swindled me out of money have not been hipsters, but landlords and real estate developers.

*Hipsters aren't leading bloody, hopeless wars, but my country is.

*I don't think hipsters are to blame for my crap medical insurance.

*Hipsters have never threatened to take my abortion rights away.

*My cheating, stealing, lying ex-husband was a scum bag, not a hipster.

*Teachers, not hipsters were the ones who said I wouldn't amount to anything.

I could go on and on. Actually I should hate a lot of people, but none of them are hipsters.
