You won't be one of the richest nations once you loose 50% of your salary to taxes.

higher tax = better healthcare (no?)
or at least that seems to be the pattern
US = lowest tax burdens

"better"?

i dont think so. We have higher taxes but i wouldnt say our healthcare is "better". More people get it but instead of being better we all get the same mediocre service.

higher tax = lower productivity, less growth and fewer jobs meaning more people relying on the government. Rinse and repeat.

At the top, Sweden, Turkey, France and Poland impose the biggest tax burdens on families, but in most of those countries families get added social services, such as secure pensions and health care.

Citizens in these other countries are paying more money, but they are getting more back, in terms of social programs, said Christopher Heady, head of tax policy for the Paris-based think tank Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, or OECD. Its a choice the electorate makes.

well i'm not going to speak on behalf of my more patriotic, less educated comrades, but i had no issues paying higher taxes when I was in canada. I was glad that if/when i went to go see a doctor for whatever reason, the last thing on my mind was payment or worry about payment

The issue doesn't become how good the healthcare service is but how much money people have to spend on other things. As it stands now, there are healthy people who don't have insurance who have more disposable income. If they now have to spend another 20% of their income on health insurance that is 20% more they don't have to spend on other things that keep the US economy going. Over a long period of time things will eventually even out but in the short term the US Economy is going to get hit hard and I don't think the politicians will see past the short term.

you wouldnt want the public care offered in latin america.

In argentina people consider going to the public hospitals a pseudo death sentence. They try their absolute best to get into the private system. One of the perks of working for the government ITSELF is having private coverage which from what i saw is actually better than here.

so if u dont have a problem paying more, then why not just get better coverage for yourself?

well ya i'm doing well actually. i'm concerned about others who arent well off and actually need care and they can't afford it i.e some of my friends and their families. its this whole mandatory insurance crap which makes no sense. The US already spends more per person on health care which doesn't even reach all.

but in the end its all just politics and money anyway. who gives a about anyone else anyway, no?

forcing people to buy insurance is being done in order to subsidize the people who cant be turned down for coverage. The idea is that healthy people who arent buying insurance now since they wont use it very often must now pay the freight of others. Its a hidden tax.

There is no doubt that things in the US have to change but not like this and not now.
