There is no doubt that things in the US have to change but not like this and not now.

spot on, sir! to quote buddy from Watchmen, "it's all a in joke"

Obama will end being the Bob Rae of the US.

Thats what u get when you vote against something or someone instead of for it.

Is this healthcare bill affordable? It is, assuming that either another expenditure is cut, or revenue is increased. A combination of the two is probably the least painful. According to the World Bank's World Development Indicators, US defence spending was 4.28% of GDP in 2008 (compare to Canada's 1.38%). A reduction of defence spending to 4.00% with an increase of the federal income tax rate to 40% at the top end (currently at 38%), would make 'Obamacare' a break even option. A .28% reduction is very manageable, and the only people that would protest such an action are the war profiteers and the pitchforks and white robes crowd.

im neither. While i think the idea of war and defense spending is awful, it is what has kept us from speaking german, russian and soon chinese. Its sad we need to rely on this but its a fact.

The real waste in defense spending was in Iraq. If getting out of Iraq will save the required money then im all for that!

Gee, it's all so simple when you say it!

(No.)

or at least that seems to be the pattern
US = lowest tax burdens

Doesn't that break the pattern, then? The quality of care in the U.S. is one of the best.

Perhaps you meant to say "more consistently-available health care" as opposed to "better health care". By definition, the two are mutually exclusive.

And you are proposing that the U.S. reduce defense spending to Canada's levels? Brilliant.

well i could write a novel, but then no one would read it and id get flamed for writing a novel... isnt that right?

sheesh!

since NATO is what neutralized the cold war and eventually won it, and the US was the majority contributor to NATO and still is, i stand by that statement.

The post quite clearly states a drop of 0.28% to 4%

i understand the sentiment behind those who wish to slash defense spending, but i dont understand the logic. Just because we decide to be peaceful doesnt mean everyone else will. And for that we have to be ready.

Where the US ed up is when Bush invaded Iraq without provocation. Otherwise it is their massive spending on defense along with NATO and NORAD that has allowed us Canadians to get away with spending little on our own military. You could argue that Americans indirectly funded our health care if u really wanted to reach.

Imagine the burden if we had to defend ourselves without an ally like the US?

Seriously stop and think about it for a second.

Wasn't choosing sides either way. just stating a point of the post that seemed to have been missed.
