Circa came out at the beginning and said they wanted to have corporate events and other ventures during the week as well...hence why I wonder if a lack of interest there is the downfall. Its obvious that Guv is doing something right to be going strong for as long as it has. So what was Circa not doing that Guv has been doing? Is it simply location and choice of clientelle.....I don't know.

i think the high operational costs brought up their high corporate/private rental prices which might have scared a lot of people away. that space would probably make more money as a parking lot.

i walked by circa last night and the windows and doors are covered with 'for lease' signs.

It didn't help that the design of the main-room was flawed at it's core.

What should have been a dance-floor was a giant square of private couches. Which turned the entire main room into a rectangle of halls to walk down.

What should have been a place for private couches was a dinky little dance floor.

Letting people drink from glass beer bottles was a horrible, horrible judgement call. I watched shards of glass get kicked across the floor on the 2nd and 3rd floors, only to slide under the barrier and drop to the main room below. Very dangerous. You could almost fit a whole beer bottle under the glass.

I say good riddance. A great idea, but flawed in it's execution.

High costs. Too many rooms, too many DJs, too much staff, "artists" rent... list could go on and on. Once the novelty wears off, it's hard to maintain all of those. Hence why the washroom bar got it's wall knocked down and things got stripped bit by bit

...no Justin Chung in the mainroom...

I went to Circa once and it was the strangest club I'd ever been to. The upstairs section was like a maze of hallways and what seemed like catwalks.

Didn't help that Laidback Luke was there that night, and he's IMO.

I love how they say downtown core

quote:
“When I left, we were doing about 1,400 to 1,500 on Friday and just under 2,000 people on Saturday,” Bristol said. “Even after Peter’s era, they drew 1,600 on a Saturday; it was still the busiest club in the downtown core.”
